Ooh, Brian gets tough

Brian McGrory is spitting fire today, with a column that excoriates Tom Menino for not doing enough about rising rates of violent crime.

One question, Bri: Why didn't you write this column one month ago, two months ago, three months ago, when it might have done some good? You do remember that mayoral election we just had, the one in which you declared Menino a good choice for the city? How did Menino go from being the father of the Boston Miracle in your Nov. 8 column to "an aging mayor" today? That's quite a transformation in two weeks.

What's that, you say? You were too busy writing about the Red Sox? You just didn't realize crime was so bad until last week, when you were kept up all night in your Back Bay condo by the alarm from an Audi that was getting dismantled out in the alley?
