Salem Street in the North End to get another Italian restaurant
The Boston Licensing Board today approved a food-serving license for Cafe Nuovo, now going into the site of a long-abandoned restaurant at 76 Salem St. The board took no action on owner Vincent Ferrara's request for a beer and wine license, pending a meeting with a neighborhood group - and research by the board on whether the city has any of the licenses left to give - the total number is limited by state law.
Ferrara had originally proposed staying open until 2 a.m., but scaled that back to midnight on the request of another neighborhood group.
The new restaurant will serve breakfast starting at 7 a.m., light lunches and "family-style" full dinners. Ferrara said he hopes to open this summer.

Whaddaya mean, "another?"
There are others? All I know is Pizzeria Regina, which is convenient for Garden events.
Watch your check total at Cafe Nuovo
I thought Vinny "The Animal" Ferrara was a convicted felon; if so, doesn't that make him ineligible for a Boston liquor license? I guess only the ghost knows.
His prior restaurants in this location since he got out (like La Brace) have been notorious for adding phantom charges to the bill. If you end up at Nuovo, keep an eye on what you order, ask the price of the specials, and go over your check with a fine-toothed comb. Nobody should get clipped over a meal.
Different guy
The Vincent Ferrara who showed up at the licensing board looked like he was in his 20s, not his 50s.

It's his son, who is a very nice and professional young man. Although his father has a bad past, his son has a great reputation in the North End (and on that note, his dad has dramatically cleaned up his act and is very charitable to the North End community projects). I am excited to see what he can do with this place.
Never Assume... Amazing Brunch @ Caffe Nuovo
You know what they say... never assume cause when you do you make an ass out of you and me! With that said... I tried Caffe Nuovo myself and learned that the owner is not an animal nor a mobster; Vincent Ferrara Junior is a soft spoken mid 30 year old graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. A polite young man from the Sudbury suburbs who grew up visiting his grandparents every Sunday on Cooper Street in the North End. I ordered the $3.95, 2 eggs, scali toast, homefries and 3 pieces of bacon breakfast - all excellent and for under $4 you can't beat that. Best cup of coffee I have had a in a long time! Restaurant was immaculate, location can not be beat and I found all the waitstaff to be super friendly and professional. I think I found my new favorite brunch spot for sure! In any event, this patron found no ghosts, animals or phanton charges; only amazing food at an even more amazing price! Try for yourself and let's not assume!
