Christygate: Lefty bloggers rise to righty bloggers' defense

The Margolis brothers at Hub Politics are getting support from unusual quarters in its fight with the Mihos campaign, which tried to shut the blog down over its comments about a Web site that may or may not have been owned by the Christy's Market company.

Mass. Marrier, about as far to the left as Hub Politics is to the right, comes to the site's defense:

... Not owning up to a problem, screaming "Lies and libel!" without solid cause, pretending that registrar data don't exist, slamming a blogger instead of taking responsibility, and trying to take down this news source through the host add up to some poor thinking.

Is this the kind of guy we would want on Beacon Street?

The best we can hope for here is that Pendergast was operating as a rogue, without Christy's knowledge or okay. ...

Dan Kennedy writes the Margolises may have been a bit over the top in their questions about the site - even if it was improperly pointing to the Mihos campaign, the value of a domain is only $14.95 a year or so. Still, he asks, why is a candidate for governor threatening bloggers?

Jay Fitzgerald writes he's not sure what to believe - except that Mihos was

clearly and obviously a jerk.

On Blue Mass. Group, Charley on the MTA wonders about the Mihos campaign:

... This should have been a tempest in a teapot for Mihos; but gosh, when you threaten people with libel ... that's pretty serious. Seems to me that it's Mihos's campaign that needs to get its story straight. ...

Finally, proving the last thing you want to do is shut down a political blog, a Cape Cod blogger has reposted the original Hub Politics post, just in case something does happen to the site.
