Beth lets Jerry McDermott, Allston/Brighton's district city councilor, have it with both barrels over his demand the city tear down the Citgo sign:

... I may not be a Bush fan, but anyone with half a brain knows that Hugo Chavez is a total moron, and a moron who has little to no actual clout on the geopolitical world as a whole. The fact that a Boston City Councilor would embarrass himself giving Chavez's remarks enough weight to consider changing a fundamental aspect of the landscape of the city he is charged to serve makes me wonder if we can add some new diagnosis of "Conservative Psychosis" to the DSM-IV. ...

Right on Beth.

I'm not for or against Chavez, I just don't care. I wonder, however, if Chavez is indeed a moron, why do his opponents keep bringing his name up? Everytime he is mentioned, every time a his position is dignified with a response, his positions gain credibility.

Also, if the axiom that 'there is no such thing as bad publicity is true', think of all the free advertising Citgo is getting.

I don't know what is more distressing, people debating the removal of Kenmore Square's Citgo sign, or me falling into the trap of the Herald's manufactured outrage and participating in this debate.

New Logo

I just spit iced tea over my screen. The new UH logo made me laugh out loud.

Funny, yet sad at the same time. I'll have to denounce my UH citizenship now that it has allied itself with the rouge state of Venezuala. A state that gave away free home heating oil to needy Americans. That's not what tblade stands for, bucko.

Adam (sigh), why must you hate freedom?

Pretty soon, everyone at UH will be speaking Venezualan and wearing Che Guevara shirts. I, for one, am AMERICAN - the only two languages I know are FREEDOM and AMERICAN!

I honestly laughed when I heard Chaves' comments and saw him do the Bush "walk" on television.

If the guy is so "crazy" why does anyone pay attention to him.

What makes me think he might be on to something, if only slightly, is the attention he seems to get from supposedly real politicians.

And I'm sure the douche who is proposing the removal of the Citgo sign is only doing it to get on the local news, or maybe the O'Reilly Factor. He knows that he will be dead before that terrifically gaudy landmark is gone.

I don't know whats going on with Gerry's plan to take down the Citgo sign, but I think Gerry McDouchebag is on the same political mentality as Hugo Chavez. I am a republican, and I voted for Bush, but a lot of people don't like him, this is the greatest country in the world, and the fact that an idiot like Chavez can come here and give our president shit just proves that. When I think of the Citgo sign, I think of Fenway, Boston, etc, not Venezuela. I sent Gerry McIdiot an email letting his know how dumb his idea was, and was promised a response, but I haven't recieved any response yet.
