Are there any classes around here on how to use e-mail?

Because it sounds like the folks who run the Greenway could use one.

The woman in question is being criticized for (legally) stealing with both hands from the quasi-public trough. And then coming back with a handcart to steal the trough.

Her defense? She's an excellent administrator who runs the Greenway so effectively that she deserves almost a quarter of a million dollars a year.

And for that kind of compensation, you get a bimbo who mistakes a hostile Herald reporter for her own PR flak, and can't figure out how to use the "reply" and "cc" functionality of her email client.

Just imagine how good she'd be for $500K/year. For that kind of dough she could probably master even that gnarly old "bcc" thingy.

Seems to me that Richard Davey is the only honest public service employee in Boston. I don't know if he will do more good in his current role or in public office- but he needs to keep up the good work.

The Boston political establishment is just falling over itself to not say anything negative, and you really wonder why. Who has she been giving blowjobs to?

Here's a better article with the email contents, and the laundry list of financial issues:

Deval's really taking hits here. First that housing agency, and now this. How many other agencies are serving as cash cows for Deval's lackeys?

$225K a year to "run" a 15 acre park? I should have made a different career choice.

Well worth reading. I particularly enjoyed the tidbit about the Conservancy spending more money on fundraising than they brought in in donations.
Those must have been some awesome parties! :)

But they do fail to mention the problem is the result of CEO compensation in the private market.

I doubt there's a lot of competition in the private sector for the former director of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Unless they are looking for someone connected to Massachusetts state politics to peddle influence.

Let's face it.. she most likely got this job in the same way many other directors of semi-public agencies do... donating and/or funneling money from other people to political parties. A cush job and a relatively high salary is usually the reward for those sorts of things.

Apologies Gentle Readers, but I can't help myself.

Did anyone notice the name of the PR consultant as reported in the Herald?

"In the email with the subject “Need Advice ASAP,” Greenway Conservancy Director Nancy Brennan sought help from her public relations consultant, Lisa Quackenbush, who confirmed the email was intended for her."

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino said, “I think Nancy Brennan overall has done a good job. ... You look at the salary at some of the other nonprofits in the city of Boston, she’s done a heck of a job managing that property.”

If its not one thing it's another. Nothing good ever comes from the Greenway. Today I walked by the stretch between Aquarium and Dewey Square. It is so grim and desolate. There is no reason for anyone to use it or walk along it. Don't blame the weather or the season because even now the Boston Common and Public Garden are bustling with activity, people walking through, sitting on benches, etc. Sure, for a few weeks in the summer a few nearby workers eat their lunch on the Greenway, a few local residents walk their dogs and a few tourists let their children run through that fountain thing that reeks of chlorine, but it's hardly a functioning "park". A median strip is a median strip.
