A dead train at Haymarket, you say? The Red Line attempts to trump that with a dead train of its own at Park Street AND another one at Harvard. How can Orange answer?

Meanwhile, speaking of competition, Landon Kolsky proposes an MBTA Olympics:

Events include high evasion jumping, baby stroller hurdles, 100 meter dash to the Red Line, and Curling.

Only problem, he adds:

The opening and closing ceremonies will be delayed due to a signal problem, they will apologize for any inconvenience.

So tonight I tried the Red Line first. After waiting at South Station in a delayed train I decided to walk to DTX because I was headed for a stop on the Orange Line. By mistake I went through the entrance gates that are for Red Line so turned around and walked down the concourse. Of course at the Orange Line gate I get the dreaded "pass already used" and there's not a uniformed mbta staffer anywhere in sight. I piggybacked through with someone and surprise-the skinny guy in the plaid shirt flashes his badge + stops me. I explained what happened, he mumbled ok + I ran for the train.

You do have to leave the fare-paid area for certain Orange-Red transfers if you require elevators.

By the way, was the skinny guy really a cop, or was he an inspector? I'd be surprised if a cop let someone go that easily.

Details: #519 had cooling failure in middle of nowhere. Only solution was to push #519 with #521 to Natick. Worse, 519-521 "double" train required 30+ minutes to power air brakes. Terrible night.

Thanks to the Red Line What a way to start a Friday.night! Got on crowded train @ Kendall @ 5:45. Got off at 6:22 in Qu Ctr. just to get on a crowded bus which I had to wait 20 mins for because of the. Red Line.

Well, thank goodness those thousands of stranded passengers are at least safe from biological warfare.

We may have a transit system that breaks down daily, that daily wastes countless thousands of hours of commuters' time, but thank goodness we have a federal government that ensures that those broken down trains are safe from bombs and biological agents.

MBTA needs a grant from Homeland Security to make the system more reliable. You see, the more people on platforms and in tunnels waiting, the more victims there will be from attack! Attacks also makes elevators and escalators important for rescue operations, so they need to also work.
