Hyde Park getting two new restaurants - one an Italian place by the owner of Sophia's Grotto in Roslindale
Joseph Garufi, owner of Sophia's Grotto in Roslindale Square, has a building permit to turn the shuttered The Hyde on Fairmount Avenue into a new Italian restaurant.
Tyler reports the new restaurant will be called Antonio's Baccaro - and that Garufi will seek a full liquor license. The building permit says Garufi will be extending the kitchen into the dining area, ditching a drop ceiling and adding new finishes to what old-timers still remember as Dotty's.
The area hasn't had a full-service Italian restaurant since Mario's, where the Briar Rose is now, closed several years ago.
Meanwhile, Cordon Bleu, a River Street restaurant that sometimes doubled as a gambling den, shut for good earlier this summer after health inspectors closed it for several violations. The restaurant's windows now bear signs announcing Salamander's Cafe is coming soon. No immediate word on what sort of food it will serve.

Things are building steam in HP
Do you mean Mario's?
"The area hasn't had a full-service Italian restaurant since Maria's, where the Briar Rose is now, closed several years ago."
Well, it has been awhile ...
Yes, Mario's. Thanks - fixed.
Patio just in time for the snow
Word from the neighboring barbershop is that it's taking a long time because of major renovation. That includes dinner-style grill to a totally new, enlarged kitchen, adding a patio and making it like an Italian tavern/restaurant.
The owner of the Fairmount Grille is looking forward to the dining upgrade for that end of Logan Square, he says...more higher end customers for all...
Salamanders?
Any word on whether Salamanders is the same owner as Cordon Bleu?
Also that graphic looks like it had coffee beans on it, so my guess is a Coffee shop.
Mario's
Not Maria's.
And I'm still bummed out Kenny King's is filled with junk now.
15 minute
ok
H'aint never...
...seen a soul going in or out of the papered space but am delighted to hear that work is underway....anyone who opens a restaurant in this neighborhood is pretty bold...needs to be seen if we locals can step up and support em.
would love to see a diner (demographics, disposable income) move in but happy to have whatever people are offering! Good luck!
I hear you.
Locals need to support these HP spots. I had to wait for a table at farimount grill last week because it was packed, which made me really happy for the owners. The food was top notch too, they are on point these days.
We definitely need a diner with a good affordable reliable breakfast.
two eggs OE, taters and toast
two eggs OE, taters and toast, <$5...heck, I'd even pay extra for coffee..maybe Salamanders is that kinda place...or a remodeled dempseys (get a shot with that coffee)
Can't wait!
It's gonna be awesome! There are plenty of people around who can afford to go out to eat but chose to go to Dedham, this will hopefully change that!
I wonder if salamanders is the same owners as the one in East Boston?

Good detective work
It definitely is! I found this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/572697619492336/?ref=51&source=1
and the HP location uses the same graphic as the one in east boston (which is now closed)
HP new eateries
its good for area, the competition. Still tough to get consistent support, but Italian will have a good draw. Salamanders, there was one in the Back Bay, Cambridge and somewhere else in Boston - but they were coffee shops. The grille has some lean days, but he sticks with it and is supportive back into the community. We need more support, more people walking thru - something else to draw them in (better theater setting); People going to church, zumba, the Y, aren't likely to be out for dinner & drinks too. Maybe Kings house could be a pop-up restaurant venue
? A noodle place would be good too.
