typically display up to six different messages. As such, when a company is approved for a single digital billboard, they should be required to remove six of their adjacent static billboards.
Personally, I'd like to see ALL billboards go away - they are nothing but a huge waste of resources. As Odgen Nash once put it:
I think that I shall never see
A billboard as lovely as a tree
Perhaps, unless all the billboards fall
I shall never see a tree at all
"Personally" I don't like that ugly cell phone tower (or whatever it is). Maybe we should tear that down. Because I don't like it. Come to think of it, those train tracks are ugly, too...
They are a waste of money, a waste of resources (like the steel used for the supports and the electricity used to illuminate them (static signs) or run the displays (digital signs), and an unnecessary distraction to drivers. And, unlike cell towers or train tracks, the provide ABSOLUTELY NO appreciable public benefit. Especially when they are placed every 500 feet - it's just one more example of corporate welfare.
