Pikachu has a secret
The kidlet and I made our annual trek to the Pru to check out the costumes for Anime Boston. As always, it didn't disappoint, except for maybe the fact there were no Tron characters.
Thousands of costumed con goers flitted through both the Hynes and the Pru, where they mixed with bemused tourists and a few little kids, who found themselves watching an impromptu parade.
Even hard-core anime fans need some time to recharge - especially if you're walking around strapped into a giant flame thrower (which took a couple months to build, with some help from dad):
Most of the anime fans avoided the Microsoft store in the Pru like the plague, but Magneto is not most anime fans:
We played a quick game of Anime fan or Tourist:
Those giant plushy heads must get really warm:
Make way for Slave Leia, knave!
Sometimes you just have to spread your wings:

Adorable!
That's a 1966 Cyberman
from the classic Doctor Who that's escorting Slave Leia.
Get some funny mixes
My son used to go to Anime Boston every year. One night I went to pick him up right around the time a Red Sox game finished. The streets were filled with people in Sox paraphernalia waiting to cross with cosplayers, giving them very strange looks.
I work at the Pru a fair amount
But this event always surprises and delights me. The kids are great and the fun they're having is a bit infectious.
I saw an interesting juxtaposition on Thursday. Holy Thursday Mass at St Francis Chapel was getting out as Anime goers were registering nearby. Some strange looks given to the kids.
Luckily there were no Roman centurion or devilish costumes to be seen.
There were a few years
Where "slutty schoolgirl with animal ears and tail carrying a sword" was pretty common. Very confusing to share a T with at 8 am on a Saturday morning.
Excessive Sailor Moon
My kids lost count one year when we went to lunch in the food court. Male and female Sailor Moons everywhere.
A few years later I was drafted to convert an IKEA velvet curtain into a cape for some troll costume.
Great!
These are wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
I have a secret too
I'm in love with Pikachu boy. What a cutie !
Ah! That explains the elves
Ah! That explains the elves sitting in front of me on the 39 bus last Friday. Mystery solved.
THANK YOU
