Roslindale lucked out today, getting a rare rain-free weekend day - and nice temps - for the annual neighborhood parade, now named in honor of Tom Donahue, who long helped organize it. Read more.

UPDATE: What your reporter thought was a short-eared bunny was, in fact, Sammy the Squirrel. Clearly a future in fuzzy mascots is not in the cards.

A light drizzle failed to halt the 41st annual Roslindale Day parade from its traditional route down Belgrade and back up South Street.

As always, the firetrucks started things off: Read more.

Roslindale residents bundled up a little more today as they lined the route of the 40th annual Roslindale Day Parade.

Fortunately, there was no precip, so these dancers were only metaphorically "singin' in the rain:" Read more.

The weather cleared quite nicely for today's Roslindale Day parade. As crowds lined Belgrade Avenue and South Street in the newly emerged sun, marching bands marched, cute little kids did cute little things and clowns, giant furry animals and politicians competed to see who could shake the most hands.

Members of Boston Latin School's Junior Classical League took turns in the chariot and offered up cheers in Latin:

Kid and parade

Just as the Roslindale Day parade was starting in Roslindale Square, the rain let up. By the time the parade was halfway through Belgrade and Walworth, the sun was coming out.

The Somerville High marching band marched in Roslindale:

There were politicians and there were babies, and sometimes they met:

Roslindale turned out for the annual Roslindale Day Parade today. Marching bands marched, politicians politicked and, at least where we were, everbody seemed to have a good time:

Pretty much any pol running for office that doesn't involve replacing Ted Kennedy made the Roslindale Day parade today. Here are pictures of them all. Above: At-large City Council candidate Ayanna Pressley exhorting us to "make some noise, Roslindale!" Aside from three girls who screamed excitedly for almost everybody, though, we kinda didn't - we just weren't the feistiest stretch of the route.

Floon was out in force:

Today was the Roslindale Day Parade, and we set up camp at our usual location, at Belgrade and Walworth Street. It was a nice parade, if a bit odd in that there wasn't a single fire truck (unless you count the ancient one used by the New Liberty Jazz Band). Seems the firetrucks ran about 15 minutes before the rest of the parade. And there seemed to be a lot fewer armed-forces/Junior ROTC/veterans groups.

More photos, natch:

Unlike last year, the weather for the Roslindale Day Parade today was just wonderful. The woman above was part of a Bolivian dancing troupe. One cool thing: Boston firefighters, marching behind a "Thank you for your support" banner, got loud applause.

Roslindale didn't let the rain rain on its parade - the annual Roslindale Day parade went on as scheduled down Belgrade Avenue (albeit without some bands and groups and firetrucks):

Yankees vs. Red Sox

They danced well, but it was still kind of odd to see a bunch of people in Yankees uniforms dancing down Belgrade Avenue during today's Roslindale Day parade.
