The Boston Licensing Board today suspended the liquor license for Macumba Latina, 477 River St., after BPD detectives found a long line outside and lots of people without masks inside, as well as a DJ, last night - all violations of state and city Covid-19 regulations. Read more.

The Bulletin reports that the River Street mall with the Price Rite and the Burger King at the Hyde Park/Mattapan line, could get a Starbucks and a Planet Fitness.

Developer Todd Finard, who has been trying to fill the space left vacant since he tore down what was left of the old paper mill there in 2007 and 2008, will hold a community meeting on the two possible additions to the Shops at Riverwood at 6 p.m. on March 24.

Public Facilities Commission Meeting: Department of Neighborhood Development 03-10-21

The Boston Public Facilities Commission this morning approved handing over a quarter-acre parcel off River Street in Mattapan to a group that will transform it into a "food forest" stocked with trees from which anybody can pick berries and nuts, and another parcel off Chelsea Street in East Boston to a group that will create a community garden. City of Boston Licensing Board 5-13-20

The Boston Licensing Board this morning approved a Burger King in the Shops at Riverwood strip mall on River Street, with the support of one neighborhood group pleased to finally see a restaurant, even if a Burger King, move into the mall and the outraged opposition of another neighborhood group, which accused the developer and the chain of exacerbating the poor health of black residents in the surrounding area. The Santander Bank at 860 River St. was robbed by a black man wearing a blue surgical mask, a green hoodie, dark sweatpants and black and white sneakers around 12:45 p.m. He ran towards Mattapan Square with a white sack full of cash.

The Boston Licensing Board said today it would hold off a vote on letting a Burger King franchisee open an outlet on River Street on the Hyde Park/Mattapan line after aides to several elected officials said they could not support the proposal until at least after the franchisee meets with Belnel Road-area residents, who say they don't want to see a burger place open until 2 am. in their backyard. A local developer is proposing to raze the recently closed Junior's Automotive at River and Business streets and replace it with a five-story, 32-unit residential building with room for a coffee shop and 19 parking spaces in the ground floor. Read more.

WBZ reports a man walked into SK Convenience, 1283 River St. in Hyde Park, shortly after 9 a.m. put a gun to a clerk's head and when she couldn't open a cash register fast enough, threw her to the ground and threatened to kill her - as her five-year-old daughter was in the back of the store, which is around the corner from the E-18 police station.

Firefighters at River Street fire

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 161 River St., near Standard Street, shortly after 9 a.m. for what turned into a two-alarm fire.

The fire, which damaged the basement and first floor, caused no injuries, the department says.
