Summer Street
On Oct. 1, 2002, an explosion started what became a nine-alarm fire at the L Street power plant in South Boston. By the time it was over, firefighters were doused with toxic lubricating oil so thick some had to take off their respirators to breathe. Read more.
Boston EMS reports that after first responders rushed to the old L Street power plant after a floor collapsed while workers were demolishing it this afternoon, they were able to remove two injured workers fairly quickly, but the most seriously wounded man remained trapped in the rubble. Read more.
WCVB reports one worker was seriously injured and two others also hurt during demolition work at the former L Street Boston Edison plant, being mostly torn down to make way for a mixed-use development. The most critically injured person remains trapped in rubble at the site.
It's the second collapse at a Boston demolition site this year. In March, a worker died at the old Government Center Garage.
Garrett Quinn came across this sad sight today: Two of the last working pay phones in all of Boston, knocked to the ground on Summer Street in front of Macy's in Downtown Crossing. Quinn, a grizzled old-school reporter, says he picked up the receiver on the top side to see if it was still working: He says he got a busy signal.
Hush Crew is a group of local, mostly Asian-Americans who like to dance in public to K-pop. The other day, they were at Summer and Washington street, dancing. Between sets, they wore masks. And that really set some random guy off, to the point where he started calling them communists and tried to pull the mask off one of them. Read more.
Downtown water-main break causing flooding as well as water-pressure issues in parts of South Boston
Boston Fire and BWSC crews are in the area of Summer and Purchase streets dealing with a water-main break (video). One resident of Thomas Park in South Boston reports water-pressure problems there and across City Point. Some of the water has gotten into the southbound O'Neill Tunnel.
A disgusted citizen filed a 311 report about the gull buffet outside the Summer Street Taco Bell this morning. Read more.
A man ordered away from Murphy's Law, 837 Summer St., after he punched a woman in the face because he couldn't quite hit the guy he meant to hit, went home, got a hockey stick and proceded to repeatedly smash the bar's windows and doors until he finally broke a window pane, police and the bar's co-owner told the Boston Licensing Board today. The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 99 Summer St., near Kingston Street, around 5:30 a.m. after "e steam leak earlier sprayed unknown debris in the area." Read more.
UPDATE: WFXT reports the more seriously injured pedestrian, a woman, has died.
The Fort Pointer reports spotting the aftermath of a crash between a van driver and two pedestrians at Summer and Melcher streets, shortly before 9 p.m. At least one had injuries serious enough to warrant having the homicide unit respond. He reports the van was still at the scene of the crash.
State Police report troopers responded to 450 Summer St. in South Boston around 10 a.m. after being called about a dead man there. State Police report the victim was 33 and that his death is under investigation.
Boston Police report arresting two men and a woman for a double stabbing on Saturday on Summer Street in front of Macy's that sent two men to local hospitals in critical condition, one with chest wounds. Read more.

NBC Boston reports two men were stabbed around 2:30 a.m. on Summer Street in front of Macy's. One suffered minor injuries, the other is now in the hospital with critical injuries.
City Councilors Michael Flaherty (at large) and Ed Flynn (South Boston) want the BPDA to shove developer's plans for more than 1,300 condos and apartments at the old L Street power station into a drawer until after the developer and Massport can proved the developers actually have the right to build a giant residential complex next to a truck route feeding into the nearby working port area. The Boston Fire Department reports no injuries from a two-alarm fire that erupted shortly after noon in a basement electrical vault at 245 Summer St. - the former Stone & Webster building between South Station and the postal annex. Read more.
Cybah reports the culinary hole left by the closing of the Summer Street Subway is being filled by a Taco Bell.
Boston currently has just one Taco Bell, even if barely: On VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, just up from the Dedham line (it shares space with Boston's only Long John Silver's).
