The Zoning Board of Appeal today unanimously approved plans by a developers to replace a triple decker and some vacant land with a nine-unit building at 175 F St. between West 3rd and Bolton streets. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday approved plans to replace the long shuttered Supreme House of Pizza at 313 Old Colony Ave. in South Boston with a new restaurant that would serve Middle Eastern food and fresh-pressed juices - along with pizza and burgers - between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. - but on condition it not offer takeout. As Boston officials await word on whether the legislature will give last-second approval to more than 250 liquor licenses for the city, the Boston Licensing Board today approved plans by developer John Hynes IV to pay $600,000 for the liquor license of a defunct downtown bar to use it as an enticement to bring in somebody to run the restaurant he wants to have in his 18-story, $600-million Seaport office and life-sciences building. The Boston Licensing Board voted today to let an East 8th Street market begin selling beer and wine, but again cautioned they are going to put more scrutiny on any future requests from South Boston markets to add alcoholic beverages. Read more.

Eversource reports nearly 1,900 homes and businesses in a swath of Roxbury along Melnea Cass Boulevard - and into South Boston - are without power. Among the affected buildings: 1010 Massachusetts Ave., home to the Boston Public Health Commission, ISD and the Zoning Board of Appeal, which has turned to battery-powered laptops to try to continue its scheduled hearings for today.

Eversource says it hopes to begin restoring power around 3:30 p.m., with the final outage eliminated by 5.

East Broadway fire

Boston firefighters responded to a fire at 587 East Broadway that spread to a neighboring house and went to three alarms before being brought under control this afternoon. Read more.

Naked and near naked bike riders in the Seaport

Tony Ursillo was among the (fully clothed) people watching naked, half-naked and faux naked people riding down Northern Avenue on bikes, skateboard and, yes, at least one penny farthing last night as part of the annual World Naked Bike Ride Boston, which started at Stony Brook in Jamaica Plain.

Savvor, a Caribbean and soul-food restaurant and nightclub on Lincoln Street in the Leather District, and SAVR, a "spirited American bistro" on Seaport Boulevard in the Seaport, are fighting in court over the similarity of their names - or lack thereof. Read more.

Booby and cormorant in Old Harbor

Hugmajesty spotted our rare fly-in brown booby hanging out near Carson Beach with one of the local cormorants, in sharp contrast to yesterday's attempt by some of the meaner gulls to chase it off. Also note its feet are yellowish - you're thinking of blue-footed boobies, which are a different species altogether, one found in the eastern Pacific.

Brown booby in South Boston

Mary Ellen was among the bird enthusiasts who gathered on the beach between the Curley Community Center and Carson Beach today for a chance to photograph the brown booby that decided to head north for some time in the Hub.

The Boston Licensing Board deferred a vote today on a request from an East 8th Street market to let it sell beer and wine, so that board members can consider whether South Boston is on the verge of having too many places that sell adult beverages. Read more.

MBTA track workers at Park Street try to fix rail problems

Update, 10:16 a.m.: The MBTA reports normal Red Line service has resumed.

A maintenance vehicle being used for some overnight work at Park Street derailed this morning, knocking out the third rail and completely disrupting the morning commute. Read more.

Upside down Tucson on A Street

On the Channel captured the scene on A Street at Melcher Street in Fort Point, where the driver of a Hyundai Tucson somehow flipped the vehicle shortly before 8 a.m. He was able to get out of the SUV himself before first responders arrived.

Old Red Line car right on Dorchester Avenue
