Suffolk Superior Court Judge Joshua Wall today sentenced former Transit Police officer Shawn McCarthy to 4 to 6 years in state prison following his conviction last week on charges he concluded a joy ride he gave two women in his cruiser in 2012 by raping them.

The FBI today arrested former Transit Police sergeant David Finnerty, 47, of Rutland, for his alleged role in helping one of his underlings cover up the way that officer used a baton to beat a homeless man at the Ashmont T station - and then arrest the man for on a bogus charge for attacking him. A federal judge today dismissed a former Transit Police lieutenant's wrongful-termination suit, ruling he was only fired after an investigation proved he used a locked room for long snoozes when he should have been overseeing officers, not because the department's chief hates White people or his underling hates unions. The Massachusetts Court of Appeals today upheld a six-month jail sentence for Jennifer Garvey, convicted on two counts of assault and battery for pepper-spraying a woman in the eyes at close range and beating her with a baton after the woman tried to comfort another woman who'd been reported as drunk on a bus at the then Dudley T stop in 2014. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports it is investigating a now former Transit Police officer for possibly lying about an April 28 incident in a Forest Hills busway in which he may have shoved the man into the pavement and then kept him there with his knee on his back for 20 seconds. Michael Rae, a former Transit Police lieutenant, has sued the MBTA, Transit Police Chief Kenneth Green and Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan over the way he was fired in 2017, charging he was fired not for sleeping on the job but because Green, who is black, is biased against whites and veterans like him and that Sullivan, who is white, is biased against union officials who complain about working conditions. A Suffolk County grand jury today indicted a Transit Police officer on assault and battery and civil-rights charges for allegedly using his baton to repeatedly beating a homeless man at the Ashmont T stop - and charged two Transit Police sergeants for conspiring with the cop to try to cover up the attack, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and Transit Police announced.
