Woman dies in fall down Fort Point shaft

Boston Police are investigating why a woman fell to her death down a shaft in a Summer Street building tonight.

The Boston Fire Department, which initially responded to a call for a person down a shaft at 281 Summer St., said their search was at first hampered because the roof was dark and the building has more than one shaft. After more than an hour searching - and breaking down walls to several shafts - rescuers found her body at the bottom of a shaft on the third floor, the department says. The building is eight stories tall on one side; seven on another.

She was declared dead at the scene. The medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy.

It's still unreal to me thats she's gone. She didn't deserve this at all! She was a good, kind, caring, smart, and loving person. She was the kind of person that would give you the shirt off her back if need be. Rest in peace, Courtney you'll be missed greatly and my thoughts are with you and your family! <3

The three connected buildings on Summer St. are all occupied, not vacant. If it was either of the two buildings with street address on Melcher Sts. between Necco and A Sts. I would suspect the same as they are vacant. Either location provides great views of the city from the rooftop, despite what news reports say. Better still to just styy off those rootops.
