Foodies hopes to bridge the channel between the South End and South Boston with a new store on West Broadway it's planning on opening Oct. 1.
The licensing board decides tomorrow whether to grant a food-serving license to the new outlet at 230 West Broadway, where owner Victor Leon will offer sandwiches, take out and locavore-type comestibles in an 8,000-square foot space. City officials and state Rep. Nick Collins all supported the application; nobody opposed it.

Gourmet Markets at both ends of Broadway now... Once Starbucks go in at Broadway Station, we just need another one on East Broadway. Then we close the gap.

Southie needs one, there is tons of undeveloped land between andrew and broadway, perfect spot for a big one like the one on Memorial Drive. Currently, if you drive south from either the brookline or bay bay location, there isn't another trader joe's until you hit hanover, that's ridiculous. They would clean up in southie

I asked a manager at the Needham TJ's why there isn't one on the South Shore until Hanover and he said "not the right demographic."
I didn't bother to ask what that meant.

We have trying for years to get Trader Joes to come to Dorchester. There was a spot on Morrissey Blvd (where a Burger King used to be) that would have been perfect -- lots of traffic, lots of parking, but apparently we in the "inner city" aren't upscale enough for them.

When Trader Joe's was new, they were fairly open about how they deliberately located stores in neighborhoods with a certain median income, level of education, discretionary spending habits, and distance from other locations, so their stores would be guaranteed to be full and profitable.

What? You are kidding right? The second the Whole Foods openned in Hingham back in 2005 it was instahippie. I've watched people buy $400 worth of groceries at once in there many times. There are Cumberland Farms bigger than the TJ's in Hanover. The Fresh Market in Hingham is great. Braintree couldn't support a Trader Joe's? Adams Corner in Dot could support at TJ's.
On the other hand, Never trust a market that does not sell Diet Coke (and is owned by Germans).
