Boston Police report drug-unit officers seized 96 grams of heroin, 67 grams of fentanyl and $187,675 in cash in a raid yesterday at 90 South St.
Byron Ortega, 22, of Jamaica Plain, was charged with possession of Class A and Class B drugs with intent to distribute.
Police say their investigation continues.

How the hell is a 22 yo
living in subsidized housing designed for the elderly with $200k in cash?
Not all elderly housing there.
nt
When I lived in the
When I lived in the neighborhood, the neighborhood watch meetings would would be held in the community room of that building.
Working the system. Who's
Working the system. Who's the landlord?
because
He doesnt file taxes on his independant pharmacy
his father is a custodian
his father is a custodian there they all lived there
90 South Street?
I thought the Farnsworth House was an elderly and assisted-living facility. I lived next door to it for years and only noticed elderly people going in or out.
That building is for "income
That building is for "income-eligible frail elders and others with disabilities". Much like the homeless-beating Trump Super Fans who lived in their mom's public housing apartment, it looks like this guy was living for free where he shouldn't have been in the first place.
Addictions are considered a disability
People with substance abuse issues are treated as disabled and living in these facilities with seniors. It is a huge problem in some buildings.
Also
A huge number of addicts and/or dealers start out using script meds for, well, a disability. It can be a pretty volatile situation, especially if you've acquired the disability. Imagine suddenly being out of work, maybe giving up a career, suddenly hurting for money, not being able to enjoy your same hobbies and social life, you feel like you've got nothing to lose, and your condition is one where you're provided with strong narcotics that are worth a lot of money. I can definitely see how many people would sell or abuse the drugs.
Wow
A whole 96 grams of heroin.
"Every little bit helps," said the old woman as she pissed into the sea.
But how many EBT cards?
They no longer say along with immigration status. But, hey, Mass got a nice $187k winning.
96 is trafficking weight and
96 is trafficking weight and the cash can speak to the volume of sales. This is GREAT work by BPD (MSP?)
Sure
It's trafficking weight. Not that this is anything or anyone that isn't already replaced. Same old story.
Yes.
Because surely the $187k in cash came from selling teeny tiny quantities of heroin.
Honestly--you've sprinted into the lead in the Random Trolling category this week. If you want to nitpick about what level of heroin dealing we SHOULD tolerate in our neighborhood or whether this or that character is or isn't a terrorist, it's going to get very dull around here.
Yes
Actually, all things considered, $200k and 100g is not much more than a street-level hit. The idea that these types of busts are "victories" in the drug war is simply propaganda. Hitting something bigger, taking out someone who won't be replaced tomorrow, requires actual work.
But hey, if you get bored, try reading something else.
While I agree...
...with your overall statement, getting guys like this is part of the "work" you describe in getting the bigger guys. If you honestly don't understand that please post your address and your "Trump 2016" bumper sticker/lawn sign package will arrive in 6-8 business days.
Huh.
The Wire's been off air for 7 years already. I didn't think anyone still believed that you could roll up a drug network with low and midlevel busts.
Sweet irrelevant Trump mention, though.
NEARLY
200k in cash with another almost 100 grams and 67 grams of cut is not low level, could barely be considered mid level. What do you do for work that this amount of cash is peanuts or low level to you? This guy knows somebody, and like every other young dumb kid slanging dope at that level, he will flip, almost without question. People in the Commonwealth have been overdosing on this laced shit at a crazy rate the past couple years, I feel it is no coincidence that they caught the guy with Fentanyl to cut his dope with.
Let's use math:
A kilo is a thousand grams is roughly $70k to the distributor. Grams cost about $100 give or take on the street, So figure dude had 1/10 of a kilo ($10,000 potential value) and enough cash to buy 2 kilos the next time he re-upped. With plenty left over to buy gold chains and flash around to pull hot chicks at the club. This is low level to you?
The Trump reference was used toi illustrate that you are an idiot, unable to see the larger picture, just like him and his supporters. Hope spelling out the insult clears that up for you. Should have known reading between the lines wasn't your thing....
look at the picture
Look at all those crisp new $100 bills in the picture. I doubt those came from low-level street sales.
Uncut fentanyl?
I thought that the big problem was they didn't know who was adding fentanyl to the heroin. Shouldn't finding a stash of the former be a big deal? Or is it just that everyone is cutting them together and law enforcement is that far behind?
good job BPD
as a 22 year old who works 60 hours a week at a real job and moving out of JP cause can't keep up with market rents...
...I say good riddance to this guy - I despise everything he stands for
Awesome BPD. Hope the judge
Awesome BPD. Hope the judge will be just as awesome.
Good riddance?
Oh, to be young and naive again.
I too am happy they took him
I too am happy they took him from cheating the system. Busted.
I'm waiting for city councilor Pressley to admonish
the BPD for this unprovoked act of financial oppression against of Mr. Ortega. He is merely a victim of circumstance who didn't know where the money or drugs came from. The BPD could have de-escalated this situation by simply walking away.
