The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 17 Cranston St. in Jamaica Plain's Hyde Square for a fire that sent smoke billowing out the top of the unusual house's attic, around 1:15 p.m.
The department reports firefighters were able to knock the bulk of the fire down in about 40 minutes - after bringing in numerous ladders, "because of the house being located on the top of a hill with no access in the rear for the ladder trucks and the street being tight."
The department reports nobody was home at the time and that there were no injuries.
The 12-sided house, which has its own Wikipedia page, was built in the 1870s.

Do Boston Firefighters carry crampons for winter roof work? I wouldn't want to be on a snow and ice covered slanted roof without a set.
