East Boston teen charged with Blanca Lainez's murder in the garage of an unfinished house

Jose Hernandez, 16, faces arraignment tomorrow on charges he murdered Blanca Lainez, 19, whose body was found beaten and stabbed in a garage on Princeton Street early on June 15.

Boston Police homicide detectives arrested Hernandez today at 63 Marion St., police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office report, adding his arrest comes in part based on evidence from phone records and surveillance video.

Lainez was originally from El Salvador. Earlier this year and last fall, four teenagers also originally from Central America were murdered in East Boston, in which officials say was a violent war between two gangs with their origins in that region.

A spokesman for the Suffolk County DA's office said today there is "no direct link" between Lainez's murder and the earlier murders, but added, "the motive remains under investigation" and that the investigation into her death remains "very active."
