The Zoning Board of Appeals today approved a proposal to replace a single-family home on Baker Street just north of VFW Parkway with a set of five townhouses.
Each unit at 577-583B will get one parking space, although the project's lawyer said the spaces are large enough to be used as tandem spaces for two cars. He added the owner of the current house will live in one of the five townhouses, across from Brook Farm and the cemetery.
Three of the five units will have roof decks.
Nobody opposed the proposal.

This is just one more reason why there needs to be a bike path through the center median of the VFW, connecting the Millennium Park / Cutler Reservation back to the Emerald Necklace.
Good idea

I like that idea, Vaughn. I bet it would be hard to figure out some of the intersections, though.
There's already lights at most of the intersections

with the exception of one or two I think.
There are few spots where the median is narrow but 85% of it could be done by simply installing the lanes where the grass is.

Mixed agreement from me. It has a bus route already which will take you right to the green line. It's pretty reliable for commuting, but stinks for off-peak hours. What's odd to me is that it's in a place where residential density isn't going to help much. Most of the things you can walk to from here are cemeteries.
Another apartment complex on Baker ...

.. was proposed for 270 Baker St near Catholic Memorial ( http://www.universalhub.com/2016/well-hey-develope... ). Don't know where that stands now, but increased residents on Baker may cause the MBTA to improve the frequency of that that bus (the 52 from the Dedham Mall to Newton and Watertown).
I think that's still before the BPDA

But unless they've changed something (I haven't looked at the latest filings), the odd thing about that place is that even though it officially has (at least for now), a Baker Street address, the egress was going to be through the other side of it, near the Savers where the Stop & Shop used to be.

.. was confusing as to what the access would actually be ( http://www.universalhub.com/2016/some-residents-ha... ). But there is a staircase behind the day care center that is currently there. It goes up to Baker St.
The developer should retain it (and fix the railing), It would be really ironic if they didn't since so many developers in WR talk about how the Millennials aren't buying cars and prefer public transportation.
