I was in a downtown Boston highrise (32nd floor) that day. My desk had stunning views of the harbor and Logan. I was drinking coffee and gazing at the planes taking off at the time the hijacked planes took off.
Little after 9 CNN (we had it playing on a huge flat screen TV by the receptionist) reported a plane crashed into the WTC. I was busy, and thought it was probably a small prop plane. Within 15 minutes all hell broke loose, The rest is history. Beautiful day, dry, blue skies, low-mid 70s.

It was one of those *perfect* New England fall days - blue bird skies.
It was my first day of classes and my friend / roommate had the "early" class - I was still sleeping.
He came back and told me school was cancelled and to put on the news. We watched CNN / local news for the majority of the day.
I can't believe how quickly the years passed,
R.I.P to all those who died that day.
September 11, 2001 was Primary Election Day in MA

Great to see BFD remembering. I was working the police detail for the election. It was Primary Day when a retired Boston Firefighter asked "can you believe what is happening in New York?' I had no idea what was happening but wheeled out a TV from the school AV office. The guidance counselor said she didn't want the kids to see it, so I had to wheel it into a corner. Then I went outside and saw the last of the planes landing at Logan, as all planes were ordered out of the sky. There was concern of Boston skyscrapers being hit and also talk of canceling the election but consensus was "if we do that the terrorists win." Very solemn day and night.
