No more Bertucci's in Kenmore Square
By adamg on Tue, 03/06/2018 - 1:33pm
Boston Restaurant Talk reports the Bertucci's in Kenmore Square has shut - it couldn't renew its lease with the current owner of its building - which is getting ready for a major redo of that block.

Merchant's Row Closed As Well
The one tucked into the Merchant's Row side of 84 State Street, abutting Quincy Market is closed as well. It shut down, along with Pret-A-Manger next to the Old State House, and a group of Subways downtown all around February 1.
The independent restaurants / take out places (Zo, Al's, Boston News, Milk Street Café, etc.) downtown all seem to be doing well. Nice job keeping it local people.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!...
...just kidding.
Had no niche.
I've been working near Kenmore for 5 years and not once has there ever been reason to go get generic chain Italian food instead of Cornwall's or Eastern Standard or any of the other dozen spots, and the place always appeared deserted aside from Sox games and xmas parties. Never been to UNO either but at least that place has enough street charm to fool some tourists.
Bertucci's started out local
Davis Square, then Kendall (Central?), Harvard, and a few other squares.
$$
It's also affordable. Eastern Standard may be nice, but it'll break the bank you go there often enough...
My girlfriend and I attend 5
My girlfriend and I attend 5-6 Red Sox games each summer and we usually went to the Kenmore Bertucci's before the game. Ironically, what we liked about it probably doomed it, meaning we could always come right in and sit at the bar or get any table. Even on game days, the place never really bustled, nothing close to what surrounds the ballpark.
It's news to me
Wait, there was a Bertucci's in Kenmore? Really. I never knew.
On that block...
NE School of Photography got the boot with little notice last year. They're now in Waltham.
