Shooting deaths at Hailey Apartments ruled domestic-violence murder-suicide
On the afternoon of Nov. 19, Jose Dos Santos traveled to his former girlfriend Lodimara Dos Santos's Jamaica Plain apartment with a gun and knife and threatening to murder her and kill himself. Around 5:45 p.m., he carried out his threat, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and Boston Police report.
Dos Santos 32 - not related to Lodimara Dos Santos, 23 - also stabbed a man who tried to prevent him from shooting her at 60 Bickford St. in the Mildred Hailey Apartments. That man survived.
According to the DA's office:
The investigation into her Nov. 19 homicide revealed that Jose M. Dos Santos, 32, traveled to the victim’s home that evening armed with knife and a 9mm handgun threatening to kill her and himself. He stabbed a 33-year-old male also present at the scene when that man attempted to intervene on Lodimira Dos Santos’ behalf, causing injuries that were not life-threatening; an adult female who was also present was not physically injured.
Witness statements and medical evidence establish that he shot Lodimira and then himself. Their injuries were fatal. Boston Police and Boston EMS responded to the scene and all three injured parties were transported to area hospitals. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Lodimira Dos Santos’ death a homicide and Jose Dos Santos’ death a suicide.
Records show that the assailant possessed an active license to carry firearms issued in the town of Randolph.
Lodimara Dos Santos leaves two children, her parents and four siblings.
