Dorchester man convicted of stabbing his son to death in 2017

Desmond Tahatdil

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Desmond Tahatdil of second-degree murder for the 2017 death of his son, Brendon, 35, in their home on Hartford Street in Dorchester, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The verdict means a sentence of life in prison, but with the possibility of parole at some point for Tahatdil, 57.

According to the DA's office, the two men, who shared a basement apartment with the younger man's infant son, had been arguing on March 2, 2017 when:

A family member heard fighting from the basement and alerted others in the home. Witnesses observed the defendant on the home’s first floor with no obvious injuries. He made statements to witnesses indicating that his son wouldn’t let him sleep, and that he had stabbed him.

Family members found Brendon Tahatdil collapsed at the bottom of the basement stairs. He was bleeding from multiple stab wounds, including one that had punctured his lung and heart. He was transported by ambulance to Boston Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Desmond Tahatdil then fled; he was arrested more than a year later in Brooklyn, NY.

Tahatdil's sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 20, at which point he will learn how many years he has to serve before he is eligible for the possibility of parole.
