Old South Church bell to ring at 5:30 p.m. in memory of Covid-19 victims
By adamg on Tue, 01/19/2021 - 12:43pm
Old South Church in the Back Bay will participate in the national Memorial to Lives Lost to COVID-19 this afternoon by tolling the Great Tower Bell. It's part of a national commemoration.
Old South Church member and MIT mathematician David Vogan will ring the 2,000-lb. bell, which sits at the top of the church's 246-foot tower.

New Old South, right?
Not to confuse it with that congregation's former home in Downtown Boston...
Duh on me...
I missed the "in the Back Bay" part...
Old South Church vs Old South Meetinghouse
The Back Bay church uses the first name. The building on Washington Street, now a historical museum and lecture hall, uses the second.
Going to have a sore arm
Is he going to ring it 400,000 times?
Why we need the Mathematician up there
Was my question too - and wondered if that was why we needed a Mathematician up there doin' the ringing.
He does it regularly
OSC member here. David is our regular bell ringer. He’s up there most Sunday mornings ringing the bell at 10:40 to call people to worship.
The Church of the Advent in Boston will also ring their bells
From their announcement:
BOS 311
Could you do something about these bells ringing? I know some people like their religion but I have a toddler here and it's annoying her.
Hugs and Kisses .
Karen.
Would have been nice to be able to hear them
Would have been nice to be able to hear the church bells, but news helicopters are swarming overhead, so can't hear anything else.
