Rough patch coming for Hyde Park Dunk's fans

Update: Ye unobservant ed somehow completely forgot about the America's Food Basket-adjacent Dunk's!

Via the Hyde Park Facebook group comes news that the Dunkin' Donuts across from the 7/11 (where the Store 24 used to be) on Hyde Park Avenue is closing for renovations (i.e., Scandinavian design and those frou-frou coffee taps) tomorrow,

Fortunately, there's another Dunk's just up Hyde Park Avenue, less than a mile away, in the America's Food Basket strip mall.

If Speaker Tip were still in office, he'd make sure to direct some FEMA funding to Hyde Park to make sure there was a temporary Dunks location during this disruption.

Thanks! I don't know how I forgot about that one, but this changes everything (including this post, in a couple minutes).

I find the use of taps now to be funny. especially since I worked at DD in the early 90s and the way we made iced coffee back then. (2 double pots, and 4 metal pitchers of ice in a iced tea dispenser).

As a daily consumer of DD iced coffee, I am on the fence about the taps. Yes you get a consistent product (and there's less for the store to do, except change tanks), but part of going was getting fresh in-store brewed iced coffee.

But then again, I've gotten too many end-of-day-bottom-of-pot iced coffees after 5pm so consistency might be a good thing. But a store that I frequent that has been converted, often runs out of the tanks and the store doesn't have the equipment anymore to make any, so they are just out. (vs made in store.. they never run out unless the ice machine breaks)

Thanks to the reader way more alert than I who pointed out there is, in fact, another Dunkin' Donuts just a few blocks north on Hyde Park Avenue (because of course there is), in the America's Food Basket strip mall. Original post updated.

Magoo wishes over wish, hopes over hope, that Dunkin Donuts would transmorgrify into a place that actually sells good coffee and good food. Magoo.
