The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans by Cisco Brewers to turn the old Tasty Burger on Boylston Street in the Fenway into a year round beer hall and its parking lot into a seasonal beer garden with live entertainment.
The chain, which started on Nantucket, has a seasonal beer garden in the Seaport.
Cisco Brewers attorney Dennis Quilty said that between April and mid-October, a stage in the parking lot - facing Fenway Park - would offer live music until 8 p.m., with piped-in music until 10:30 p.m.
Between October and April, the parking lot would revert to a parking lot for people looking to quaff a brew inside the restaurant building, which most recently and briefly served as the home of a failed deli.
The property is owned by Samuels and Associates, a developer that has been redeveloping parts of the area around Fenway Park.
Some nearby residents and property owners, including Audrey Epstein Reny, owner of the 342-unit Viridian apartment building, said they were not opposed to the general idea of a Cisco Brewers, but worried about possible noise from the performances.
"The majority of our residents are medical professionals, who go to bed early," she said.
Quilty said the Seaport beer garden has operated for seven years without issue, but said residents who do feel put upon by noise would be able to complain to the Boston Licensing Board, which also has to approve the proposal.

Brutal. Terrific late night spot. Who the (expletive) didn't patronize it?
Or is this Boston Occam's Razor where someone asked them for too much rent money?

I haven't made a non-airport visit since August.
Does that mean the ZBA is not

Does that mean the ZBA is not concerned with noise issues, since the Licensing Board can make an issue out of noise?
Well ...

They do care. But in this case, they didn't find it a reason to deny the zoning request. Quilty (who also frequently appears before the licensing board) was basically noting that, in the future, should residents have an issue, if they filed a complaint, it would fall under the purview of the licensing board (and the BPD licensing unit, which actually does investigate complaints to that board and 311).
Beer halls are the new science lab.

We're going to have Cisco, Mighty Squirrel, and Trillium all with a sizable beer hall within 3 blocks of one another.
For the longest time I wished there was more beer halls to meet up with friends. But now I rarely drink and most have limited food options so the appeal is not what it once was. I get the feeling we've past peak pour.
Still, I wish them the best. I do like their beer.
