Pathetic Fallacy says the SUV-damaged Porter Square Book has gained it a more loyal customer:

... Porter Square Books adds so much to the neighborhood with its friendly, intelligent staff and frequent author events and readings. It seems that they're determined to recover quickly — they had sealed off the broken windows and wall before yesterday’s heavy snowstorm, and they are open for business today. I'm more determined than ever not to take the store for granted.

On More Than A Third Of My Life Is Oeuvre, Brett reports that he timed how long it took him to get up the escalator from the platform at Porter:

So, at about 5 minutes a day: 25 minutes a week x 50 weeks: the average commuter spends about 20 hours a year riding the metal stairs.

... There are two careers in Massachusetts that virtually guarantee permanent employment: Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, and "guy in charge of 'fixing' the escalators in Porter Square." I recommend periodic job-swaps for the two, just for shits and giggles. The cranky old justices couldn't do any worse of a job on the escalators, and who hasn't wondered how a certified escalator mechanic would rule on the hot cases and controversies facing our state's highest court?
