Chuck Turner admits he had bodyguards; says they were to protect him from reporters

The Dorchester Reporter catches up with the innocent until proven city councilor:

The staff was saying, 'Well the press is going to be hounding him and going around, and this person who owns a company is willing to help.' So why reject it? I took it but I figured I'd get some reaction.

No, Henriquez was wrong. He foolishly claimed that Turner had bodyguards because Turner felt that the neighborhoods he represents are unsafe. He portrayed him as an elitist who had privilege over "teens and mothers" who "walk alone." It was an absolutely absurd argument.

So he needed four professional bodyguards to keep reporter away? What were they going to do - shoot the reporters?

"Councilor, Andy Scmiller here, you've been accused of being a low life, scumbag, race baiting bribe taker. Can I have your reaction to .... blam, blam ,blam."

And, for believing Turner's claim that he needed bodyguards to "protect" him from reporters-- from reporters?!?!?-- you're an idiot too. The only reason to have bodyguards around, _if_ the concern is reporters, is to bring an implied threat of retaliatory violence to the situation in an effort to prevent reporters from doing their jobs. Period. The end.

The story leaves unclear whether or not Councilor Turner paid for the security. They are obviously doing company-related work for his campaign (on election day to shuttle him around), so, if Turner did not pay them, then he must report it on his campaign finance disclosure form as "payment-in-kind".

Maximum donation via payment-in-kind is $500 per calendar year per person. How much do you think each security guard charges per day? Who foot the bill (company owner or individual employees)?

For those who didn't read the Dorchester Reporter article, you missed the name of the company providing the in-kind contribution to Mr. Turner's campaign: Venom Security & Protective Services. You just can't make this stuff up.

Henriquez never claimed that Chuck was elitist or even scared.
He simply asked the question of what message it sent and why was there the need. As a mother who witnessed it, I thought it was a fair question. It is what I asked myself.

I have seen Carlos and Chuck in the District alone often over the years. When does a question become an allegation or accusation ?

Why are people so defensive when elected officials or candidates are challenged ? *smh*
