That article describes me before the received the best things in my life, my wife and two three year old sons.
I have been a law abiding citizen for five years now, and hopefully those past transgressions do not preclude me from serving in public office.

...past transgressions don't preclude you from serving in public office, but they certain give me a lot of pause when considering if you would be the best choice to represent me in the State Senate. I'm more interested in what a candidate has done in the past and their grasp of the issues than personal history- Britney Spears has two kids as well, but I'm not looking to her for political leadership.

I have been involved in Democratic Party politics for the majority of the past twenty six years. I understand that a womans' reproductive rights are to be protected and not curtailed as Representative Rush would want. I think that all of the citizens of our Commonwealth have "equal protection under law" regarding their rights, and no ones' rights should be up for debate in the State Senate. Representative Rush has stated that he wants to bring this issue to be debated. As far as I am concerned, it has already been resolved to the benefit of all of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

If I fortunate enough to serve as the State Senator for my district, I will attempt to correct some wrongs that hold the poor down, like indexing the state minimum wage to inflation. If the Legislature is fortunate enough to have this happen automatically, people who work hard for the minimum wage should get a raise as well. Representative Rush claims to be a champion for working people, then why did he vote against ending $85 million dollars in capital gains tax breaks for corporations and the wealthiest of our citizens?

CORI reform has been discussed ad nausem on Beacon Hill, and nothing gets done. As State Senator, I will introduce legislation to end discrimination of prospective employees in hiring regarding misdemeanors that have been resolved to the satisfaction of the court system. I will make it illegal for employers to check credit histories of applicants for most jobs. The auto insurers in Massachusetts will not be allowed to use credit scores to rate for coverage as auto insurance is not purchased on credit.

I will also forward legislation to raise the penalty for carrying an unlicensed hand gun in Massachusetts to two years. I would want some period for amnesty so that those who wish to turn in the handguns in their possession would not cause them to be prosecuted for doing the right thing. I will push for more funding for education about the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

People hopefully learn from past mistakes and then try to make the world a better place due to their experiences. As an example, I know of a former State Senator who reformed Personal Injury Protection and Workmens' Compensation law while he was in office. He now makes his living in a company that collects on P.I.P. and Workmens' Compensation claims, and it employs dozens of people. My experience leads me toward the ends I have discussed here.

I have just mentioned four new pieces of legislation I will file if I am elected. Can Representative Rush or any of the other candidates for this office say the same?

Respectfully Submitted,
Sincerely,
Wayne J. Wilson, Jr.
Democrat for State Senate
Suffolk & Norfolk State Senate District
