Marauding coyote munching on pets along Rte. 9 in Brookline

John Bassett of the Brookline Neighborhood Alliance sent out e-mail tonight alerting residents:

There have been sightings in the Walnut St - High St. neighborhood in Precinct 5 and one witnessed killing of a cat there. A number of other pets are missing in that area. There has also been one seen near the High School.

I grew up, and my parents still live, a few houses away from the High School. I'm not saying a coyote is impossible, but a few years ago there was a similar report, and we know for certain that the creature in question was really a fox.

If it *is* a coyote, can we pay it to eat some turkeys?

Mr. Bassett puts a long ear to the ground and sniffs out the trail of this story for some hard-hitting reporting.

Fox or coyote, those pets are just as dead. Keep them inside, folks.

I saw a pretty large coyote running around Jamaica Pond just two weeks ago.

9 p.m., just saw a fox in Griggs park! Couldn't believe it, my JRT took off after it, we were the only ones in the park. Definitely not a dog.

Any dog that runs off a predator many times its size is a brave one.
