Somebody struck, killed by Orange Line train at Sullivan

The Boston Fire Department reports crews were called to the Sullivan Square T stop around midnight after somebody was hit by a train there. Not long after, the department reported the person was dead. The MBTA started running shuttle buses between Haymarket and Wellington after it shut power in both directions to let firefighters attempt to extricate the person.

But also, midnight on Sunday is the best time for news to happen and not be covered.

Sad either way. My son was on the train. Life changing for many.

Unclear how he wound up on the track, Channel 4 reports.

I was on the train behind this one having just left the Red Sox game... left Kenmore about 12 am... arrived Oak Grove just after 2 am!!! I do feel for this man's family!!! I remember being 16 years old on the platform of Malden Center when a man 10 feet from me jumped in front of the train... it took many years for the image to fade only for it to reappear the other night.

My Bf and his 16 yr old cousin were on the train that hit that man. It has been a very traumatizing for the both of them. No information has been release regarding the victim. Very sad either way. This happens all too often in Boston and we don't hear about it.

I feel for the family of the victim, but the MBTA could have handled the situation at Sullivan Square better. I was on the train coming back from my job at the TD Garden---its only 2 stops that takes less than 6 minutes normally.

At first the woman on the speaker (the train attendant) came on the loudspeaker and said "The train isn't into the station correctly.." "Obviously covering up the fact that we just ran over someone."

Then we were stopped on the tracks for about 10 minutes with no explanation whatsoever. With the red sox crowd and garden crowd coming back it was pretty crowded and after 10-15 minutes people were beginning to get agitated. I know I was. I was mainly mad at the T for lack of information and just leaving everyone in limbo. Whatever happened we had no clue what was going on. I mean if this had been a bomb or terrorist attack or something we would have all been killed with no way off the train. They left the doors closed for 20-25 minutes before letting us off, and still didn't tell us we had sturck a person.

They just said "Sorry for the inconvenience" and to evacuate the station that busses would transport people to their final destination. Too late for people who missed the last 11:30 bus on a weekend from Sullivan and had to pay for a cab.

While I feel bad for the victim's family, the MBTA could have done a better job of informing us on the train what was going on. I felt like we didn't get any direction what-soever and if there had been a fire or some other emergency on the train we could have all perished. The MBTA needs to do a better job informing people what is going on when things like this happen, and not leaving riders' in limbo.

Why did they keep the doors closed for 25-30 min and not let people off who wanted to get off at Sullivan. This could have at least alleviated the situation some by letting some folks disembark, like myself who were parked at Sullivan so we could leave the scene and get home. -

And others could have made their busses and or gotten cabs instead of being stuck for 25 minutes inside a train.

Once again I feel for the family but in the future could the MBTA please open the doors and let people off before keeping us locked in a train for 25 minutes with little to no information as to what is happening??

thanks!

You are an idiot. That is the most inconsiderate thing I have ever heard. Too bad you had to wait 25 minutes to catch your cab. Complete ignorance ladies and gentlemen. Have a nice life...

Really, what did he/she want them to say? We just struck and killed a man, now we'll open the doors so you can all take a look? What a dope.

The person who was killed was a dear friend of mine. Because no details are available yet due to the investigation, I'm sure that other friends and family are searching the internet for information. For those who were thoughtful enough, and kind enough, to express sympathy rather than impatience, I'm sincerely grateful. This amazingly generous, funny, devoted, and hard working person SHOULD have been the first and ONLY priority for MBTA officials. I'm relieved to hear that my friend was given all the help and attention that every single official at the scene had to give.
