I emailed Mr. Williams to ask him a few questions. His website doesn't say much. He is careful to avoid any kind of social issues--and I wanted a little clarification--is the guy a social conservative or a progressive or neither? His answer was not very helpful--simply that he would like to see "all people progress". I can't figure him out. I like all the door-to-door stuff his family and supporters have been doing around JP but I don't like that he is avoiding answering questions. Afraid they won't vote for him in Roxbury if he's too socially liberal? That they won't vote for him in JP if he isn't? He has to decide. I won't vote for him if I don't know the answer.

JP Progressives, a local organization that recently sponsored a forum for the candidates has a good questionnaire that gives a window into Mr. William's views on social issues, which could generously be described as right of center. He apparently believes that Roe v. Wade is unconstitutional and refuses to take a stance on same sex marriage. His answers to the questionnaire, and Senator Chang-Díaz's can be found here: http://www.jpprogressives.com/progressive-voter-gu...

As I suspected. I hope the word gets out in JP. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

I was going to vote for Chang-Diaz anyway (I've been supporting her since her first run against Wilkerson way back when) but now I'm going to make sure I get everyone I know to the polls as well. We don't need pseudo conservatives using the Dem moniker to get elected

Second Suffolk race boils up

State Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz’s primary opponent this week ramped up criticism of the first-term incumbent, accusing her of not giving enough credit to her predecessor on legislation.

The Bay State Banner covered this too following the appearances. Its slant makes me wary that some in the 2nd (like the Banner and maybe Williams) may spin this contest racially, so the last version was. http://bit.ly/aFJP9k

When Hassan Williams spoke to the Ward 5 Dem Committee he was civil and made more sense. He said that the incumbant wasn't as responsive to the Rox and Dor part of her district. That was a legitimate statement, true or not. I am a Lower East Sider so ethnic politics don't bother me. We should look at racial politics as just another version of what happens to this day in Southie, the North End & Chinatown. What I hate to hear is encouraging people to wax nostalgic about Wilkerson. She let everyone down even tho I believe she was playing the game of someone more powerful. I look forward and hope to see how her interviews with the FBI fall out. There are better people out there and I thlng Sonia Chang Diaz is one of them.

It's a shame that Hassan Williams has stooped to slinging trash to Chang-Diaz. That is primarily because he has no business running for political office (again and again). He has no real stance on the issues and when push comes to shove I would not trust him to vote / advocate for much of everything. Try and get the guy to look you in the eye and get an honest answer and I will give you a prize. This guy can't keep his story straight. Scary! We have enough bad apples and inferior politicians in office. Let's not add another one. Sonia Chang-Diaz has done a good job for her first term and I believe we should let her continue. She certainly has been an advocate for the people and will continue to be approachable and advocate for us going forward.
