That Google Maps has Boston City Hall Plaza tagged as a "park" is a bit sad, no?
[img]http://johnakeithrealestate.com/wp-content/uploads...
(However, they get points for still including Cornhill Street on their maps considering it doesn't really exist and hasn't for, say, 64 years.)

JFK Library?

Seems the Library has moved up town! I think that's the JFK Federal Building next door to the park.

I just filed a report with Google to get this fixed and they will let me know when they have taken care of it. So if you come to this discussion later, it may say John F. Kennedy Federal Building.

only a paper street

Cornhill may be a paper street at this point, but what's the street address of a business in that block of buildings? Is it XX Cornhill St., or is it something else now? It'd be useful to be able to put a street address in Google Maps and come up with the location of the business.
City Hall Avenue?

Try typing

into Google Maps and see what comes up.

City Hall Avenue is next to OLD City Hall, off of School Street -- the former site of the Kirstein Business Library.
I've seen addresses with City Hall SQUARE and City Hall PLAZA, as well as Cornhill. I believe the Square is on the Congress Street side of the building, and the Plaza -- well, we all know where the Plaza is.
Also, I believe that in the old days it was simply known as "Cornhill" without the "Street" suffix.

That particular building is One City Hall Plaza. I think there is also a One Washington St. in that mess as well.

Isn't Boston City Hall designated as a national landmark: "Country's ugliest building?"

Well, it appears that City Hall is determined to prove otherwise. It is a seriously ugly building.
It would be so easy to raise funds to build a better City Hall, too. Just charge people a modest sum to hit it with a wrecking ball. People would be lined up all the way to the water to have a go.

Those of us with the ability to appreciate Brutalism find City Hall quite charming. In fact there are only two buildings in Boston I like better. The Hurley and Lindemann building and the Federal Reserve building.

Definitely. City Hall is a beautiful and innovative approach to programming for civic architecture and was voted one of the greatest buildings in the world after it was built. It's a complete rejection of City Beautiful as civic arch. The real reason City Hall and the Plaza don't work is because the building is not used correctly/the way it was designed. The ultimate failure can be attributed to the closure of the 4th floor courtyard that was intended for public thru-access. It also doesn't help that the Congress St. entrance (at the bottom near Faneuil) is now closed as well.

I've used it - it's a bit hidden and you feel like you're going in through the loading dock, but it's a fully public entrance, right down to the metal detector.

Is it open all the time? Whenever I'm walking by, it always seems like all the shades are down and there's a sign saying entrance closed. You're talking about the turnaround next to the big stairs, right?

The Journey It Made
For quite a while, the Beautiful Enchanted Village was shut-down from 1972 until its being reborn in 1990. Then, in 1998, when the Macy’s company purchased Jordan Marsh, the Village was sold to Boston for City Hall Plaza. In 2003, a lack of funds forced the Village to transition to the Hynes Convention Center. By 2006, the city stopped displaying The Enchanted Village completely. In 2009, the Village was sold at auction.
