By adamg on Fri, 11/12/2010 - 1:59pm
Greg Cook takes us on a tour of the MFA's new wing, ten years and $345 million in the making, which opens to the public on Nov. 20.
The MFA itself has its own introduction to the wing, narrated by director Malcolm Rogers.

Photo embargo!
Notice the time of Mr Cook's post. 12:00 PM on the dot. There was an embargo on posting any photos until that time.
I can't wait to see the new wing tomorrow night!!!
I can hardly wait.
Some of the shots on the preview site look pretty swank. I'm not sure about the placement of The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit though. The old room where they had it was green walled with fairly dark lighting. This suited the painting which was once criticized as "four corners and a void" and which makes very effective use of darkness. Also, the vases were in the corners of the room. Fully visible to anyone viewing the painting but not in your face. They were a nice accent for people who were paying attention to the painting and the display. In this picture the gallery looks much lighter and airy and the vases are up front right by the picture, almost in your face. In a way they almost seem to detract from the picture which is powerful enough to hold it's own on the wall.
If the new wing doesn't open until the 20th
Then why does all the advertising for it say "Now Open"?
More importantly, I wonder how much money has been wasted on the "biltz" advertising for this that's been popping up all over the T the past few days. Unless the T has been giving the MFA free or cut-rate advertising, which would be even more unacceptable.
