Arlington comics retailer: "1 down, 534 to go"
By Stewart on Wed, 01/12/2011 - 1:37pm
Travis Corcoran, the president of Heavy Ink, an online comic book retailer based in Arlington, Massachusetts and apparently a complete idiot, had some particularly moronic pseudo-anarchistic thoughts about the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords that he posted on his blog, and the blowback from the comics community is already being felt.

Time for the innernets
to do their thing.
How-
-is what he said, theoretically, any different than what Palin did? Or the member of our government who advocated second amendment remedies? Shouldn't we be condemning Palin instead of saying 'Wait a minute...'?
No difference
Although since--especially after today's "blood libel" blather--the only people not condemning Palin are her apologists and her employer Fox News, I don't really get your point.
The origins of Loughner’s
The origins of Loughner’s delusions are clear: mental illness. What are the origins of yours? The guy was a complete crank that didn't even watch TV or listen radio. Tying to connect random actions by a crazy person to Sarah Palin is a sign of lunacy on your part.
Yup, the guy sure lived in a
Yup, the guy sure lived in a bubble.
There's a difference from being political, and absorbing political ideology and dogma. Just as there's a difference between causing something, and influencing something.
Palin herself said yesterday that ideology influences and incites.
(To be fair the sentence preceding her saying that alluded to the opposite, derp!)
Still, is it responsible and appropriate for political leaders to call for second amendment rights, killing and taking out opponents, and being a brutish douchebag to score political points and whip up their base that has fantasies of violent revolution?
I don't think so.
Well, I think Palin is a
Well, I think Palin is a pathetic hatemongering attention whore. But Travis Corcoran goes even further by explicitly advocating violence against members of Congress:
"It is absolutely, absolutely unacceptable to shoot "indiscriminately". Target only politicians and their staff, and leave regular citizens alone."
Taken as a single data point, one might imagine that he just meant this as a (particularly poor taste) joke. But I went to his blog and read a bunch of his other entries. It certainly seems like this guy actually believes that conditions in the US justify armed revolution and that the people currently serving in federal government deserve to be executed.
Country unto himself
[ SwirlySpouse here ]
His initials are TJIC, and he calls himself "Tjicistan". Apparently, he views his tax payments as "foreign aid" to avoid armed conflict with the town, commonwealth, or country in which tjicistan is landlocked.
Not that I heard of Heavy Ink until yesterday (when a Facebook friend outed this guy's attitude), but I hope this will seriously negatively affect his business. He has free speech, but words have consequences.
What did Palin
do?
Tell us.
I'm not particularly
thrilled about the Tea Party's introduction of actual weapons and weapons symbolism into political discourse or stating that there is a second amendment remedy-that gun violence is acceptable if voting doesn't work.
Angle gets credit for the later but realize that Angle's opinion is neither isolated in the Tea Party nor did any of the purported leaders of the movement (including Palin) make a public statement rebuking Angle's assertion. That, to this day, not one GOP Tea Party leader has rebuked the idea of a second amendment remedy is truly stunning.
Gabrielle Giffords herself had a problem with death threats, gunshots through her office window and the SarahPAC target map. Giffords described it saying that targeting her district with a rifle scope is the kind of expression that has consequences.
Palin's response; 'free speech' and 'blood libel' Imagine she's the victim, not Giffords. On this issue Sarah Palin is a hypocrite. Imagine if someone posted a image of one of her daughters in the cross hairs of a rifle scope: http://youtu.be/8YoI_-3tJY0
Why Sarah Palin used the term blood libel: http://bit.ly/g1FZVd
Nice to see that Travis
Nice to see that Travis Corcoran of Arlington is still as classy and intelligent as always.
Does he have a history of
Does he have a history of being a local jackass?
Oh, my, yes. He used to be a
Oh, my, yes. He used to be a fixture on the email Arlington List, complaining constantly from one of the most liberal towns in one of the most liberal states in the union about the evils of big government. I never discovered who, specifically, had kidnapped him and forced him to live here.
I worked with the guy fifteen years ago
And I haven't missed him since. He used to have a .sig that went something like "Buy a Rifle. Encrypt your data. And wait for the revolution."
Kind of ironic that he's home-based in the native habitat of the "Menotomy Moonbats".
Wait for the Revolution
Much easier that way. Swagger, posture, wave your guns around and rant, etc. - but take no personal chances of actually getting yourself killed or hurt.
Waiting for the revolution also means not having to take part in all that messy organizing of people and being a leader and having actual interpersonal relationships or anything like that.
Passive aggressive performance art taken to extreme levels.
Travis should understand the reference here...
Hitgirl had him in mind when she said; "Wotta douche". Another couch commando who calls himself an "anarcho-capitalist", which in English means guy who never gets laid and is looking to blame someone and since everyone hates politicians anyway and I'm just expressing the same opinions regular readers of Deadpool......
Also, since he is such an admirer of the free market, he should have no problem watching his business fade away.
If "paying taxes" = "foreign aid"
I wonder if he has a well and sewage treatment facilities on his property? Does he refer to shopping runs as "invasions" because he has to use that foreign land's roads to get to a store?
(makes "L" with thumb and forefinger)
And if he doesn't have sewage
And if he doesn't have sewage treatment facilities, is flushing his toilet an act of biological warfare?
Tjicistan- LOL
Inhabitants include one human, 2 dogs and 10 guns. Sounds like a fun place to visit!
How does he decide which dog to attempt to sustain Tjicistan's population with? Does the other one get jealous? Poor poochies...
I'm a resident of Beersylvania. Population: 2, and a fridge full of beer.
Can anyone confirm "online" retailer (only)
I have bought comic books in Arlington in the past at two different shops. Can anyone confirm that this guy is only an online retailer? I want to make sure I'm not patronizing any business this douchebag is associated with.
I can confirm that he's not
I can confirm that he's not either of the brick & mortar comic book stores in Arlington (one of which has closed recently, anyway).
Thank you and sorry
Thanks Scratchie,
And I'm sorry to hear that a legitimate establishment has closed.
Comicazi
closed in Arlington Heights, but has greatly expanded their other location in Davis Square.
Thanks, and...damn
I liked that shop in Arlington Hts. Oh well thanks for the tip about the Davis Sq location; at least they're still in business.

yup, it's all a big joke.
yup, it's all a big joke. And another internet tough guy walks back from his hateful and indicative comments.
Meanwhile the crazies in their own reality eat it up.
Adam linked to a story of his before

Sovereign invasion!!
Poor TJICistan.
His webserver is down too. I was so hoping to see a blog post ranting about the recent invasion of his sovereign land.
This doesn't happen often...
You know, invading a foreign country and actually finding WMDs!
Awww..blog is down! Nerts!!
I've been getting such a kick out of reading "Macho Man" Travis Corcoran's blog lately. He's one of those types that wrote what he wrote, knowing that it would bring him attention, then claims to hate all the attention. I was dying to see what comedy nuggets could have been mined in his responses to everyone who would be posting about his penis substitutes being taken away. Goof.
Can't shake the Devil's hand
... and say you're only kidding.
Interesting how his full-time commitment to his personal business ventures dates to a time just after the Edgewater tragedy. I wonder if his reputation for high caliber luv made him unhirable?
(In fariness, this was a time of failing dotcoms even before 9/11.)
