Maybe there's a good reason an MBTA supervisor was blocking a handicap space and the sidewalk while parked on grass along Beacon Street today, but Todd Kirrane, who took the picture, says the driver just seemed to have stopped to do some shopping.

He was guarding the sidewalk! Very important, in crime-ridden Audobon Circle. They'll steal anything out there.

And I dare say that this is an example of how/why things around Brookline are pretty well run. While Mr. Kirrane goes out of his way to make sure that people know that his tweets are his own (read: he is not acting in his official capacity), I still think that most city and town transportation directors wouldn't have had the guts to post pics like this for fear of offending the politically connected.
I just hope that he gives the T a taste of Penelope, and sends them the bill for the plantings that were killed by this idiocy. It also would have been pretty sweet if a Brookline Cop or meter maid had written a FAT ticket for blocking the handicapped space. That really pisses me off.
Over to you, Mr. Davey.

First it was the Mayor of Cambridge parked in a bus stop to do some shopping now its a T supervisor parked illegally to do something.
The rest of us would get tickets, but these folks get off with nary a problem and a hearty "no comment".

Nah, trust me: heads roll (when there's publicity behind their arrogant asshole-ish behavior).
(But only because it was caught on film.)

Not to beat a dead horse, but why are these folks driving such large SUV's?

Because they sometimes have to push vehicles that get stuck on the tracks (it happens a lot more than you would think). Bus supervisors also have to push buses to get them clear of traffic if they break down.

I can understand that the supervisors may need to occasionally push a vehicle out of the way, but really, they need Chevy Suburbans, and Tahoes ? How about a nice stripped down pickup truck ? We gave Deval such a hard time about the Cadillac, I bet the SUV's the T drives cost just about as much.

I think this is really getting away from the main issue at stake here -- rude and/or illegal parking.
The difference between an SUV such as a Tahoe and a pick-up truck is minimal: the cover on the back, really.
