For second time in less than a year, woman in her 60s murdered in own apartment in South Boston
Update: Arrest made.
Boston Police report a 67-year-old woman was found with a stab wound around 10 a.m. at 737 E. 7 St.
The victim, suffering from life threatening injuries, was transported to Boston Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries sustained. Homicide detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the victim's death.
NECN reports she was Barbara Coyne and that state Sen. Jack Hart vows her killer will be brought to justice.
In August of last year, Barbara Tagen, 65, was found beaten to death in her Andrew Square apartment. An alleged drug-using neighbor faces trial on a charge of first-degree murder for her death.

Since when is 67 "elderly?"
Since when is 67 "elderly?" That's redunkulous.
67 is now full retirement age
67 is now full retirement age and you're eligible for medicare. So that is elderly!
Elderly
THe Boston Globe has stopped using the word elderly to describe people. Occasionally it will slip into a story, but rarely. Elderly is not a category, it is a descriptive and usually patronizing word. And I have seen it used to describe people as young as 55. If the age of the person is known, it should be used, if not Man or Woman is all we need to know. Teenager is proper usage because it is specific, and child for someone younger than 13. Over 20: Man or Woman.
Almost
Associated Press says that 18 and up is "man" or "woman" or "person" and under 18 is child/boy/girl. In feature writing it's fine to use "young adult" etc. for someone who's under 18 but doing something quite independently.
I don't have the book on hand and can't remember what they say for "elderly," but I know that in grad school for clinical work, we were taught "elderly" is demeaning and shouldn't ever be used. We learned (and I agree) that "elders" or "retired people" or "seniors" are appropriate descriptions for fellow human beings who are in the later stages of life. (Also that "retired" is always appropriate even if the person didn't work in a traditional sense, because we want to portray that all people's contributions to society are equally valued.)
Name calling
Nice to have someone agree. And note the word Elderly is not used if the person is a Bold Face Name. E.G. Elderly actress dies. Elizabeth Taylor died at her home today.....
She was murdered twice in one year?
Inconceivable!
Awful
Hopefully the Boston Police are able to solve this despicable crime quickly.
Lets hope so
Heard on NECN this morning that she has relatives in law enforcement, but if she's a long time local it's just as likely to have a few bad sheep in the family that can also bring trouble around.
Southie has slowly been on the uptick in violent crimes as the great recession finally starts to hit people. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent uptick in police presence from C6.
Southie is not a large area, and I almost never see police out on car patrols, let alone on foot.
What
an ignorant post.
"Oh, she must have scumbag relatives because she lives there."
GFY
What?
Everyone has scumbag relatives and acquaintances. Location doesn't matter.
I have a few bad sheep in my family. Luckily I don't have to associate with them or their problems because I don't live anywhere near them, associate with them, nor do they know where I live. Some people don't have that luxury, especially if you've long lived in the city and you are not wealthy.
This is the same area of Southie where a guy was almost beat to death recently by self proclaimed "townies". Not that all or even many act like that, cause they don't. Just saying there always is one or two in a family, and if you all live close together it might be a good place to start looking. I'm sure the police already have.

Looking back over the comments to that, it looks like a few of them, and soon to be the rest, are headed to jail for felony assault and battery. Good.
Anyways, most murders are committed by relatives or acquaintances of a relative. Thats nothing new.
Southie
Just a heads up there are two different parts of Southie. The part of Southie this happened in is: super yuppie, hippie, yoga, dog walking, college educated, jogging, Iphone using, wine drinking, high real estate value, people. This type of stuff generally doesn't happen on this side of Southie i'm guessing the junkies are running out of things to steal near Broadway Station.
Are you kidding me
The neighborhood she was murdered on is all old school life long southie
Residents ! Furthermore there are no " areas" anymore that are just yuppie
Or lifelong ...all demographics are mixed through out all of southie
But the real question is : what the hell is th point of your post?? Explain please
A women was murdered that is what the focus should be . How do we catch and bring justice to the
family And community??
Stop watching movie's
until you can distinguish between fiction and documentary.
There's no "side of southie". Southie is a mix of old school, projects, yuppies, and normal folk at quite an even distribution.
In other words, it's a inner city neighborhood. Nothing more, nothing less.
Anyways, looks like what I first stated above was dead right BH. How about an apology?
Luckily her sons scumbag "friend" is being brought to justice. Sounds like the guy's got a pretty good rap sheet too.
Sad
Thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and her family.
Hopefully the police can find the coward.
