Bloomberg interviews Chris Bauman, whose brother Jeff had his legs blown off by one of the Marathon bombs, and who, despite heavy sedation, managed to give investigators a lead to the identity of one of the suspects.

I can't imagine that most people would be able to do the same. I probably couldn't even be counted on to identify myself.

Big save.
I'm also happy that Bauman works for Costco and not WalMart, and likely gets good health insurance and union benefits. He is going to need them.

to say about it. I'd hope we can band together and make sure bills and money aren't issues for these folks.
While we're here, my friend is collecting donations that she'll first match, then donate through her company to The One Fund. So whatever you donate gets matched 300%. She's legit, so don't worry:

One of my cousins who works for Costco on the west coast just posted that employees are attempting to arrange a time bank where other Costco employees across the US can elect to donate a day or two of sick time to Bauman. With a national workforce, that could count big.

Sounds like a scam to me. We give money to your "friend" and then "she" gives it to the one fund? No thanks, I'll donate to the onefund directly and take the tax break myself.

Read the link for God's sake. she only asks that you tell her bout it and she'll match it, up to a certain amount.
Then her company matches her.
Seems pretty cool to me.
But healthy skepticism when donating is certainly warranted- there are some real scumbags out there that try to capitalize on tragedies like this.

She has an alternative method for those that might not know her or feel iffy about it.
Just contact her and verify with her your own donation and she'll donate $26.20 which Eaton Vance will match at $52.40.
Also, no one is forced to do so. Just though I'd pass it on to my UHUB community, since it'll get matched twice...
Thank you!

Wow, thank you to my anonymous friends (Tell me who you are? Yes?) for sharing my link. I had no idea what Universal Hub was until a complete stranger emailed me this morning about a donation.
To SupGirl, I don't fault you for being skeptical. I am beyond appreciative that my friends promoted awareness for what I am doing, but due to the tricky nature of financial contributions, I only reached out to friends and family via Facebook. People who know me know I am not doing this to "scam" anyone or for "tax break" purposes, but I guess we do live in a world where your doubt is warranted, so I am not offended. I was in a pretty bad commuter rail accident a few years ago and I understand the burden of medical bills on top of feeling lost, confused and MAD. However, I have no idea what it feels like to be a carpenter who has had his hands incinerated in the face of evil. I want to help as much as I can, and thought it was cool that my company will double the lump sum I give them.
In any case, you are awesome for contributing to One Fund Boston, no matter how you do it.

Thanks to the Internet, we now know that the world (or at least this country) is full of people who prize petty ideological pissing contests above all else. There is nothing that can happen that is so serious that it trumps the pleasure of pissing in the general direction of the hated enemy. I only wish they'd all wear red hats, so the rest of us could identify them in real life and avoid them.
Seriously?

The difference is huge. It isn't ideological to point out that one place would quietly fire the guy and the other will definitely support the guy - it is simply fact.

People were saying "uh duh, what evidence does the FBI have?" I knew that one of the victims saw one of these two mad Russians drop the bag. The FBI interviewed all the victims and showed them photos. Thank god this kid survived to point them out.
