David Bernstein explains why, doesn't say if the staffer at least had a sleeping bag.

sounds illegal to me
Exploiting your elected office to gain an advantage in the election...
He should go to the back of the line.
Even better...
Bring out a shredder for those forms and make them go back and get those signatures (good luck with that!) all over again.
The Punchline
He'll fire the staffer for acting like a student because he hates students.
How many unrelated persons can sleep in a City Hall office?
ahh one, ahh two, ahh three - it takes three licks to get to the center of a Rossie Roll - if you get to four unrelated persons in a Rossie Roll, you get a fine from ISD.
:-Q
I wouldn't think it would be.
I can't imagine it is. He's not using the official powers of the government to his advantage, he's using the fact that he has physical access to the building. It's impossible to remove all advantages from city councillors. And it's a public building, so in principle a non-incumbent could have found a place to hole up.
Sounds like some of these "top tier" candidates may not ....
Sounds like some of these candidates may not make it. In the signature drive, speed kills. You have to get your signatures first and then turn them in first to maximize your chances to make the ballot.
My neighbor works in the
My neighbor works in the election department, and has told me stories about a few counselors' staffers -- and even a counselor himself -- who stayed in City Hall overnight to hand in their signatures. It's not against the rules, per se (City Hall staffers can come and go whenever they please), but it stinks.
Mike Ross
Well, he just made city hall an illegal residence. Since the staffer was in their mid-twenties, obviously they were a student and we now have to sanction city hall. Maybe we can level it and put in a starbucks.
serf
I would be a lot more impressed if Mike Ross himself had been the one camped out instead of having his minion do it. Seriously, these are just city council candidates; they should be able to do their own grunt work.
Staffer / campaign supporter ...
Yeah, how does one use a staffer to do campaign work?
Do-over?
Huh? Signatures are due this morning, with a deadline of end of the day tomorrow? So if they find some of these duplicate names and have to throw them out, you have pretty much no time to gather more? hmmmm
So you can sabotage any candidate just by following their signature gatherers and make sure you're first in line at city hall? :)
