Man shot to death in Dorchester; two arrested on gun charges after chase in Hyde Park
UPDATE: Police have charged the two men with the murder.
Boston Police report a man in his 20s was shot to death around 1:45 a.m. outside 7 Havelock St.
Not long after, police followed a car from the scene to Wood Avenue in Hyde Park, where they arrested two men - both with prior gun convictions and one of whom had been acquitted in 2007 of a 2004 Mattapan murder. However, the two are currently facing only illegal-weapons and resisting-arrest charges, not murder.
Police report a BPD detective who heard repeated shots from Havelock saw a RAV 4 peel out at a high rate of speed from Baird Street onto Morton and then onto Courtland:
The suspect vehicle continued on Harvard Street towards Cummins Highway. The vehicle then crossed Cummins Highway onto Wood Avenue and pulled into a driveway. The detective exited his vehicle as assisting units were arriving on-scene. The passenger side door of the suspect vehicle opened, at which time the detective identified himself as a Boston Police officer and ordered the passenger to remain in the vehicle. The passenger ignored the detective’s command and exited the vehicle, running towards the rear of the driveway with an unknown object in his right hand. The detective observed the passenger run next to the garage in the rear of the yard and out of sight. The detective heard an object hit the ground and observed the passenger walking back towards him with his hand inside his pocket. The detective ordered the passenger to show his hands and to get on the ground. The passenger continued to advance towards the detective before removing a cellular phone from his pocket. The detective continued to yell at the passenger to get on the ground before he ultimately complied. As the detective attempted to place the passenger in restraints, the passenger put up a violent struggle.
Meanwhile, police say, the driver jumped a fence and tried to outrun the law, but failed as they surrounded him lying under a parked car on Lewiston Street.
Omar Bonner, 26, of Hyde Park, and Omar Denton, 29, of Milton, will both be arraigned on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm subsequent and resisting arrest. Police say they recovered two guns, one on Lewiston Street and one next to the driveway the pair pulled into. In 2007, Denton was acquitted on charges he murdered a man who allegedly tried to stop him from beating a female companion.
Innocent, etc.

The two Omars
Would be an awesome book/movie title ;-)
not sound like a dick
not to sound like a dick but am i the only one here who is surprised and almost disappointed that we are like 30 postings short of what we should have seen in Boston? Boston.com said 39 compared to 58 homicides last year.....thats crazy low i cannot understand it.
Boston should be having 80+ a year
But you....
> not to sound like a dick
... definitely do.
Boston's homicide rate is
Boston's homicide rate is falling and you think that is a bad thing?
I can think of one more person
Okay, that's mean. The thing is, that is a dickish thing to write that we should have more murders.
Moreover, it is wrong. You compare Boston to other cities, while each city is unique. Should Boston really have the same murder rate as Baltimore? Houston? New York? Toronto? Baghdad? Stockholm? Sapporo?
It is interesting the drop in numbers year to year for Boston. Last year might have been higher than recent years. Each murder has its own story behind it. People are either more gruntled or have worse aim. 40 does seem right. Though zero would seem better.
41 homicides not 39
41 homicides not 39
Most of the murders happen in
Most of the murders happen in a small area not city wide a place like Baltimore has less people but the population gun crime happens in is bigger I don't suggest hanging in places like Humboldt ave, Fayston st , Geneva ave and Intervale st in Dorchester.
just a hunch
I don't have local data on this, but it makes sense if you think about the city's medical resources

"Did everybody become a lousy shot all of a sudden? No," said Jim Pasco, executive director of the National Fraternal Order of Police, a union that represents about 330,000 officers. "The potential for a victim to survive a wound is greater than it was 15 years ago."
In other words, more people in the U.S. are getting shot, but doctors have gotten better at patching them up.
Not true. The number of
Not true. The number of murders decreasing has also followed the curve of the number of assaults decreasing. Check the FBI stats from 1993 to present.
anyone check if this was related to Kay's?
Havelock street is the street where Kay's Oasis is on, the local night club.....when I lived in that block every once in a while things would get out of hand inside and there would be shots outside....wonder if anyone bothered to check if this started or is somehow related to Kay's Oasis.....
Not related
This incident was in no way related to Kay's Oasis
they got into it in kays wen
they got into it in kays wen it was over he was trynna get in his car wen they shoot him then kicked him
Well then
Call BPD and let them know, otherwise some pony-tailed wannabe Attics Finch will successfully argue mistaken identity again and we'll have another dead body sooner rather than later.
I don't know whether to
I don't know whether to praise the cop for showing enough restraint not to shoot a man pulling out a phone, or to feel sad that the thought even crossed my mind.
Either way, good job chasing them down.
