not to sound like a dick but am i the only one here who is surprised and almost disappointed that we are like 30 postings short of what we should have seen in Boston? Boston.com said 39 compared to 58 homicides last year.....thats crazy low i cannot understand it.

Boston should be having 80+ a year

Boston's homicide rate is falling and you think that is a bad thing?

Okay, that's mean. The thing is, that is a dickish thing to write that we should have more murders.

Moreover, it is wrong. You compare Boston to other cities, while each city is unique. Should Boston really have the same murder rate as Baltimore? Houston? New York? Toronto? Baghdad? Stockholm? Sapporo?

It is interesting the drop in numbers year to year for Boston. Last year might have been higher than recent years. Each murder has its own story behind it. People are either more gruntled or have worse aim. 40 does seem right. Though zero would seem better.

Most of the murders happen in a small area not city wide a place like Baltimore has less people but the population gun crime happens in is bigger I don't suggest hanging in places like Humboldt ave, Fayston st , Geneva ave and Intervale st in Dorchester.

I don't have local data on this, but it makes sense if you think about the city's medical resources

"Did everybody become a lousy shot all of a sudden? No," said Jim Pasco, executive director of the National Fraternal Order of Police, a union that represents about 330,000 officers. "The potential for a victim to survive a wound is greater than it was 15 years ago."

In other words, more people in the U.S. are getting shot, but doctors have gotten better at patching them up.

Not true. The number of murders decreasing has also followed the curve of the number of assaults decreasing. Check the FBI stats from 1993 to present.

Havelock street is the street where Kay's Oasis is on, the local night club.....when I lived in that block every once in a while things would get out of hand inside and there would be shots outside....wonder if anyone bothered to check if this started or is somehow related to Kay's Oasis.....

Call BPD and let them know, otherwise some pony-tailed wannabe Attics Finch will successfully argue mistaken identity again and we'll have another dead body sooner rather than later.

I don't know whether to praise the cop for showing enough restraint not to shoot a man pulling out a phone, or to feel sad that the thought even crossed my mind.

Either way, good job chasing them down.
