Truck gets all Alicia Keys on Comm. Ave.

A sewage vacuum truck caught fire around 10:40 a.m. on Comm. Ave. near Amory Street, sending a plume of black smoke into the air before firefighters arrived to douse the flames.
Mark Vantour shows us the smoke. Jared Bancroft shows us the remains of the truck:
The fire, of course, caused "severe" delays on the Green Line.

Was the truck really moved onto the B Line tracks? Sure looks like it in Jared's photo, and it would certainly explain the T Alerts I've been getting about severe delays...

Probably was the safest place for it. Not near people, cars (which have gasoline in them) or buildings.

A fire at 10:40 AM still causing "severe delays" on the B Line at 11:33 AM, per the MBTA website. It's like the first reaction in the event of any emergency situation is "shut down all MBTA service in the vicinity," rather than, "keep MBTA transportation flowing." Think they got the car lanes open before they let the trains through?

Just passed by on my way back from lunch and they were busy doing emergency road repair in the left lane. The right lane was open and being monitored by BPD.
I didn't see if any trains were allowed through.

Those things stink when they're NOT on fire....Gotta imagine it's pretty gross over there.

It's not for pumping sewage. The truck is a vac truck owned by NH Boring (a drilling company). They were likely out there "pre-clearing" (non-invasive way of sucking up dirt from the ground) for a boring location to make sure there were no utilities they could hit before they bring in the actual drill rig. It's a really powerful piece of equipment that can basically suck up soil, rocks, and anything that will fit through that plastic pipe.
