The expansion of the BCEC is a vital piece of sustainable political patronage for this area. Where will they hide all the people who stand at rotaries and wave to you at election time?

For those of you who chide Charlie for not riding the T, this does a lot more in the long run to help the state deal with the T.

Both the condition of the MCCA and the T are legacies of the control Billly Bulger had over this state. Perhaps by breaking the MCCA the patronage aspect at the T can be decreased to help increase service.

How much does it help the T when it goes to tax cuts for big business?

If MA isn't issuing $1b in bonds to cover a handout for the hospitality industry and local hacks, then maybe they can consider issuing some bonds for MBTA repairs. One doesn't lead to the other, but the reduction in spending in one area might free up funds elsewhere. Dare to dream.

Don't worry guys, Jim Rooney will still be fine. Truly a selfless public servant.

when the politicians told us that the Convention Center didn't have to and wouldn't have gate shows? How about when they told us the majority of a Convention Center visitors won't drive but take taxis and public transportation?
Ask anyone stuck in traffic during the a Boat Show or PAX convention.

But they're still building a state-funded hotel.

Wasn't the whole point of a state-funded convention center supposed to be that it would make money for private hotels?

Now, if the same good common sense would apply to the Olympic nonsense!
