Still snowy on the Fourth of July?
By adamg on Wed, 05/27/2015 - 4:39pm
The South Boston snow pile made it through Memorial Day and as Conventures shows us, it's still there today. Will it be there on Flag Day? Dare we suggest July Fourth?
Back on February 3.
A little late-season skiing in South Boston.

What happened to the snow pile in Somerville?
There was a competition for the day the snow finally melted. I think the were giving away William Hung albums or something equally good.
The one in the field along
The one in the field along the Mystic near Assembly Square? Was still there as of last Saturday, could see it from the train.
Nope
This was a private resident who held a contest to guess when the snow pile in front of his house would melt below certain dimensions. You're referring to what is known as Draw 7 Park (named after the old B&M "Knife" drawbridge across the Mystic River) - see my other comment below.
Yes.
The one at the house.

It melted a long time ago.
It melted a long time ago. Didn't quite have the heft of this pile and the extra protective coating.
It's still there.
Last of the Snowhicans.
That's just sad...

Snow pile at
Draw 7 Park in Somerville is nearly gone (finally). And the resulting damage to what was a nicely landscaped park and groomed soccer field from unnecessarily dumping additional snow there is truly an insult to the taxpayers.
How about Danehy Park in Cambridge?
One of the soccer fields near the west end of that park was also used as a snow dump. It was quite a mess of trash when I last visited a couple of weeks ago, and was not yet all melted then.
Did Canbridge at least remove
the soccer goals before they started dumping mounds of snow there? Because the DCR didn't do that at Draw 7 park, with the result that one goal is completely destroyed (you can see the remnants of it in the debris field) and the other is damaged.
I'm also still trying to figure out why the DCR saw the need to place a temporary chain link fence at the entrance to the park to block access to the snow farm.
Danehy
There was a huge snow dump beside the parking lot to the dog run. All gone now. As is the one that was over by the Fort Washington in Cambridgeport.
September
When I was travelling through Central Canada last September, there were several stories about how the Great White Snowpocalypse of 2013/2014 had left behind so much snow that the municipal snow piles in Winnipeg had yet to fully melt down.
We could have some legacy glaciers on our hands.
Ice Age
Someone could accidentally kick start another ice age. That would not be cool.
That would not be cool.
No, but it would be cold.
Hang in there baby!
I can't imagine that sucker being gone before July. That is truly amazing.
The one nearest me, at the office park in Needham near the Coke plant, is still hanging in there, but probably only has a couple more weeks left before it's gone.
Can I just say
It is NOT an adequate replacement for the Blue Ribbon food truck. :(
wait a minute...
There's such a thing as a Blue Ribbon food truck?
Was
They still pull it out for special events and things, but it used to sell lunch daily in Needham Heights. They recently posted on their site that the guy who ran it for them is now a manager at one of their locations and won't be running it this year.
We are all sad.
Dump it
Dump it in the harbor!
Quickly!
Stuff as much as we can into climate-controlled warehouse!
Save it until next year!
And the next!
Bring it out for all to see every Christmas Eve!
