Police: Macy's shoplifter was packing a loaded gun

Boston Police report security guards at the Downtown Crossing Macy's who stopped an alleged shoplifter yesterday afternoon found he was also carrying a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special - and bags of marijuana.

BPD officers quickly arrived after the 2:15 p.m. incident to arrest Dwayne Mincey, 40, of Dorchester, on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, shoplifting between $50 and $200, trespassing, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Police say that the loss-prevention officers found two bags of pot on him and that booking officers found another 16 - and a scale.

Innocent, etc.

Is it safe to assume this man does not have a clean record?

How can he not respect the other vendors selling goods in a pedestrian mall set aside for street commerce?

the most shocking aspect of this is that somebody went into macy's period

Excellent point! Security must have been suspicious and watching him closely. Not that he may have been of color, or looked like a drug dealer, but looked like a potential customer!

20 years. Well done Dwayne.

I'm always amazed when the cops arrest a wanted guy after stopping him for speeding or failure to signal, or something dumb. If you have a bag of money, mask and gun in your back-seat, wouldn't you drive carefully?

So why carry your .38 and your pot while you shoplift?

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing this was not something he thought all the way through. Probably a spontaneous shop-lifting spree while switching from the orange to red line.

Never commit more than one crime at the same time. A huge number of the criminals who get arrested can't seem to get this one straight, fortunately for the rest of us.
