John McLachlan watched workers working on new Red Line tracks on the Longfellow Bridge yesterday.
Northbound Red lin shoo-fly cut in. Northbound trains will run on the new track seen on the left. Southbound trains will eventually be re-routed to the former Northbound tracks while the current Northbound track section of the bridge is removed and re-built as part of the bridge rehabilitation effort.
You can see the 3rd rail and other electronics are still being installed on the new track.

5-10mph across the bridge today as well (Tuesday). Hopefully it won't be slow order for the entire 8 months.
Wonder if this weekend's work will be cancelled due to impending snow. (I assume they'll be cutting over the Southbound tracks next...)

Someone just arrived at work who took 40 minutes to get from Downtown to Kendall, so the slow order is rippling down the line.

I took it this morning on my way to Davis Sq. It stopped a little longer than normal at Charles/MGH and an inspector got in and went into the motorman's cab and closed the door. I don't know whether he piloted it across the new stretch of track, and I don't recall whether he got out at Kendall. The train crossed the bridge very slowly.

There's also work equipment on the formerly outbound, soon-to-be inbound track, so that probably isn't helping matters. Perhaps there are regulations about speeds with work equipment on adjacent tracks, even if no workers are present.
