UPDATE: Ayup, we're getting snow from this "significant" storm; seems the only question now is how much.
The National Weather Service says it's still too early to give a good estimate on snowfall totals or whether the whole thing just turns to rain, but they're mentioning the dreaded 40/70 benchmark, inside of which every good nor'easter barges into us, and Channel 4 is talking about heavy, wet snow, so we really had little choice but to raise French Toast Alert to Elevated.

Sorry pal...
Not sure what you were looking at but NWS (your site) has us at 88% chance of greater than 4 inches and 76% chance of greater than 8 inches.
Numbers don't lie.
.
Yep, that page is very different now
from when I looked at it yesterday.
Forecast page changed again
Now only 76% chance of over 4 inches; 27% chance of over 8.
Harvey Leonard just said
Either 1 inch or 6.
I guess we'll know by Sunday afternoon. But just to be safe, I shoveled the street in front of my house and put a chair out.
Things must have changed considerably since midnight
As of 7AM the NWS table shows an 88% chance of more than 4" of snow.
Meanwhile
The TV forecasts are starting to sound like a GOP Presidential debate ...
Harvey Leonard has small hands
Just look at them!
Just don't express it...
in inches.
Harvey Leonard (WCBV) uses 2 projection
programs. Splitting the difference I predict at least 8 inches in Greater Boston.
8 inches ... Just like me
8 inches ... Just like me

Pistol Pete Bouchard
measures 9".
Promises
Usually when a braggard promises 8", it turns out to be 5", whether or not we're talking about weather.
Shrinkage!
Shrinkage!
Internet Inches
Or if you are an former AOLer.. it's "AOL Inches"
Or if you were on IRC.. it's "IRC Inches"
You know.. they say 9", when in reality it's gherkin sized. Next time measure from the top, not the bottom.
I tried writing Miss Manners over at the Globe
however she's unavailable due to her newspaper delivery schedule so I'll ask here. What is the proper timing for snow induced panic? Is it 3 days out (long term forecast), 24 hours or the day of the storm? Thanks.
Hoping it's 24 hours
I rearranged my schedule today so I can hit the supermarket before the hoary hords tomorrow (my original planned shopping day). I'm also hoping this causes the storm to completely fizzle out. You're welcome.
Now!
As soon as the anyone on Channel 5 says "Nor'easter" you should panic enough to mentally inventory the items in your pantry. It just escalates from there.
Even if the forecast snow amounts are immediately preceded with
as WBZ Radio broadcast early this morning.
Let's not count chickens
Several recent model runs have take it off the coast. 2-4 inches in March won't stick around more than a few hours. A foot is possible, but a nothingburger is as well.
And I don't trust the models at all this year.
If it comes—a big if, right now—the snow would mainly fall between 6 pm Sunday and noon Monday.
I'm getting my lawnmower tuned up this weekend
And here we're talking of snow.
Next weekend I'll probably be cutting grass. Only in New England!
Don't feel bad
I think a lot of people have stored their snowblowers for the season. Which brings to mind the perfect New England power tool - a combo lawnmower/snowblower so you're ready for anything.
2nd and probably last time
this season I'll get to wear my new winter boots I got for Christmas...woohoo!
Yeah, Snow Day!
Kids (and staff) all over Boston are crossing their fingers. A snow day on the first day of Spring would be awesome.
I'm surprised the schools haven't cancelled already
I'm surprised the schools haven't cancelled already, for the two inches we are going to get.
Sorry, this is all my fault.
On Tuesday, I took the snow shovels off of my front porch and put them in the basement for Spring. "Ha!", I spat, "I shan't be needing these again!". Little did I know, Nature was watching and is now punishing all of us for my hubris. My bad.
Nah
I blame all the school superintendents who failed to look back even 20 years before declaring winter over before the end of March, and scheduled the last day of school based on snow days already used.
That's fighting words for Mothah Naychah.
We'll share the blame
My wife did the same thing last weekend. I noticed the missing shovels and just *knew* it was a bad omen.
Ok everybody, blame us.
I share blame
I moved our side-porch shovel in to the garage last weekend. Those things have to stay visible well into April to ward off the snow. Fortunately I haven't given in to my urges to move the snowblower into a more out-of-the-way corner of the garage.
Ignore the calendar, winter is over
Thanks a lot, Weather Wisdom guy.
I planted my garden early! Ugh.
That's like describing a ship
as unsinkable. And we saw what happened the last time someone did that.
I keep thinking about that with the re-building of the Titanic.
The proposed Titanic II just seems like a really bad idea for so many reasons to me.
I would also like to say to you guys who put those snow shovels away too quickly bringing this kismet,....."Christina!....Bring me the Ax!"
No no, it's going to be fine.
My husband and I bought each other snowshoes for Christmas and boldly removed them from their boxes. (Those of you so inclined can feel free to blame us for this basically snow-free winter.)
