Police: South Boston bank robber tries to make getaway in cab, fails

Boston Police report nabbing the guy who robbed the Citizen's Bank branch at 441 W. Broadway yesterday morning after he ran a few blocks away and then got into a cab.

A male suspect, later identified as John Dinsmore, 52, of South Boston, entered the bank, approached a teller and stated “Give me one hundreds and fifties, no dye pack, I have a gun.” The suspect then quickly fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. A short time later, responding officers observed a male matching the given description getting into the back of a taxi several blocks away in the area of D Street and 7th Street. Officers stopped the cab and removed the suspect who was then positively identified by witnesses. Officers placed the suspect in custody without incident.

Police say that when he saw the jig was up, Dinsmore tried stuffing the money in the cab's seat cushion. Like the idea of using a cab for a getaway, that also failed to work, police say.

ruining the neighborhood. Can't even rob a bank like you could in the good ol' days when everyone knew their neighbors and nobody would rat you out (as long as Whitey got his cut).
