Boston Restaurant Talk reports the Pink Samurai dumpling place shut yesterday. People in desperate need of some dumpling action will have to head over to JP Seafood for some gyoza.

I have a friend who got stiffed on paychecks working there, and is dealing with reconciliation of that. Screw them.
Grammar request

Would you please insert "of" after "couple"? So "a couple of weeks" instead of "a couple weeks". This is a grammar mistake that I'm sorry to see, because it seems so unnecessary. Thank you.

Language evolves. While I have the same gut feeling and always insert the "of," it's no longer ungrammatical to omit it. You can drop that from your list of peeves. We aren't speaking (or writing) Elizabethan English anymore

I didn't realize it was now grammatically correct to say "couple weeks". I'm no blueblood snowflake who will clutch pearls about it, but it always sounds crass to me. Like saying "tree" for "three". "I'll give you tree hundred bucks in a couple weeks".

And "devolve" can also mean the opposite of evolve instead of to move downward. The word is now treated like "de" is the prefix on "volve/evolve".

Who dictates what is grammatical and is not? Granted grammar, along with religion and politics are human constructions. Yet we still refer to authority to help understand what are the rules. So who dictated whether dropping the preposition of?
Language evolves but sometimes it also devolves. I'll stick with language that sounds more complete. It lets me at least sound smarter than folks who want to sound sharp and cool.
Unfortunately the two drivers or language today are business and youth culture. Business wants language that is short and flat. Youth culture is always repackaging words which then are adopted into adult language.
Both are devolutions of language and the intelligence reflected and affected by language.

Where you try to strip every word possible and still maintain meaning (and, yes, I'm not consistent about it).

I believe the term is "cuppla" as in "it was open cuppla weeks," not to be confused with cupola, copley, or francis ford coppola.

That'd be amazing and it'd be a great size for a ramen shop. I wonder what will happen to Pink Samurai's beer and wine license they bought from The Frogmore.

Perhaps the problem is that there are about 10 places serving food in that part of JP and 8 of them serve pizza. The neighborhood needs every kind of restaurant but pizza.

*Ridiculous that you need to enter "the" in the search function in order to find "The Pink Samurai." I'd thought "Pink" and "Samurai" would be enough of a clue.

As we sat outside JP Licks last week enjoying our cones, we gazed upon people actually sitting in there eating (as opposed to the people sitting in there and meeting, with the "Opening soon" sign on the door for a few weeks before that).
